Sometimes all I can do is sleep,

Sometimes all I can do is eat,

What are your tips when you struggle to fall asleep 😓

3 things that help me:
✨writing anything rolling around in your head down - no rules, just get it on paper preferably also in your notes app
✨box breathing - breath in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4. If you have any heart or lung conditions, skip the hold.
✨reading always knocks me out

Although our inner critic thoughts aren’t facts, they tell us something about what we have been taught by our upbringing, and the world around us.

In the new age spiritual movement, we our told:

ā€˜just change your beliefs/thoughts and become a success.’

ā€˜Just shift your mindset’

This oversimplification doesn’t show the struggle of changing years of teaching, reiterating and surviving.

Just remember you are not alone. unlearning is a very difficult process especially if the teaching is charged with deep emotion.

Let’s talk openly about what our inner critic is lying to us about but also why it’s there.

Have you ever exploded after avoiding your feelings?

I honestly thought this was normal practice when feeling your feelings.

It’s what my parents did, my grandparents and I definitely still do it.

But, if you have the space to feel what comes up, closer to the trigger moment (I’ve noticed) the less resentful you become. And as a result fewer explosions.

If you fear what you may say to people when feeling a feeling. ✨ Remember: feeling and expressing an emotion are different things. ✨
I can feel angry and then express that anger (in the form of a boundary) in separate moments.

This doesn’t mean you have to have worked through all of the emotion before you speak with anyone. But taking time away, prevents us from saying things we don’t mean or others saying things they don’t mean in return.

If you’re struggling, remember to reach out to those who are nearest and dearest (therapists included). šŸ«¶šŸ» let’s talk about mental health!

Overwhelm
Frustration
Burnout
Embarrassment
Judgement
Boredom
Guilt
Shame
Uncertainty

For me it’s uncertainty and judgement that I want to avoid. And it’s my perfectionism that wants to avoid those feelings but prevents me from starting.
