Book Lovers Day

Today, we are celebrating the joy of books at every age!

Books have a unique ability to transport us to other worlds, spark our imagination, and offer comfort and companionship. But they also hold deep personal meaning—bringing back cherished memories of childhood stories, treasured characters, and the voices of loved ones who once read to us.

For many of our residents, books are not just a pastime but a powerful link to the past, evoking fond memories of their favourite authors, the smell of a well-loved book, or the joy of reading to their own children and grandchildren.

At PH Care Group, we encourage reading as a meaningful activity that nurtures wellbeing, stimulates the mind, and opens the door to reflection and connection.

Happy Book Lovers Day to all the readers, storytellers, and book enthusiasts among us!

🐾 International Cat Day – 9th August 2025 🐾

Today, we’re celebrating the joy, comfort and companionship that our feline friends bring—especially to our residents.

Cats have a remarkable way of lifting spirits, offering affection without words, and creating moments of calm and connection. Whether it’s a regular visit from a therapy cat or the stories our residents share of beloved pets from years gone by, cats continue to make a meaningful difference in our homes.

At PH Care Group, we recognise the therapeutic benefits that animals can provide, particularly in supporting emotional wellbeing and reducing loneliness. Today, we honour our cats past and present—and the special role they play in enriching the lives of our residents.

Happy International Cat Day! 🐱💛

August – Cancer Awareness Month

Throughout August, we are reflecting on the impact of cancer at all stages of life, with particular focus on how it affects the lives of our residents.

At PH Care Group, we understand that a cancer diagnosis can be life-changing—not just for the individual, but for their loved ones and the care teams who support them. This month, we are raising awareness of early warning signs, advocating for timely access to medical support, and recognising the importance of personalised care planning in achieving the best possible outcomes.

We are proud of the compassionate and skilled care our teams deliver, ensuring that every resident receives the dignity, comfort and holistic support they deserve throughout their journey. Even in the face of a cancer diagnosis, our residents continue to live with purpose, connection and joy.

Let us use this month to share knowledge, foster understanding, and stand in solidarity with everyone affected by cancer.

Ice Cream Day!

There’s surely no sweeter childhood memory than hearing the magical jingle of the ice cream van echoing down the street… followed by that mad dash to see who could get there first!

Whether it was a classic Mr Whippy with sprinkles, a cheeky Screwball, a refreshing Strawberry Split, Twister, Fab, or Calypso – or if you were lucky enough to bag the extra flake – those little moments of joy stayed with us.

Today, we're bringing that joy back as we celebrate Ice Cream Day all day long across PH Care Group!

We invite all residents, families, and friends to join us for a day filled with sweet treats, happy memories, and plenty of smiles.

Tell us in the comments – What was your favourite childhood ice cream?

Be Loved Day

Today we celebrate that warm, fuzzy feeling that reminds us we are loved – by family, by friends, by those who care for us every day.

At PH Care Group, Be Loved Day is more than just a moment – it’s a reflection of how we live. For our residents, being surrounded by familiar faces, cherished memories, and small acts of kindness makes all the difference. A hand held, a shared story, a favourite song – these moments of love and connection nourish the soul.

Being loved brings comfort, happiness, and peace of mind. It lifts spirits, promotes wellbeing, and helps each resident feel truly at home. Whether it’s a visit from family, a hug from a care worker, or simply enjoying a warm cup of tea with a friend – love is all around us.

To all our residents: You are deeply loved. And today, we honour the joy you bring to our lives and the love that surrounds you, every day.

We would value your views

We have recently received an increasing number of requests from families asking whether we can share social media photographs without the emojis currently used to cover residents’ faces. These emojis are in place to protect residents’ privacy, but we understand that some families would prefer more natural and personal photographs.

We are therefore seeking feedback from all families via a short survey (it takes less than a minute to complete). Your views will help us shape our approach moving forward.

Please follow the link below to share your opinion:

Once all responses have been received, we will contact families directly to discuss the outcome and next steps.

Thank you!

Happy World Chocolate Day – 7 July!

Today the diet may resemble a trolley dash down the confectionery aisle, but we promise it is all in the name of well-being. World Chocolate Day marks the anniversary of chocolate’s introduction to Europe in 1550 – a milestone we cheerfully commemorate each year by celebrating every form of cocoa goodness, from a dignified square of 70 % dark to the resident-approved “just-one-more” truffle.
Awareness Days

At PH Care Group we take nutrition seriously – yet even our dietitians agree that a sensible portion of chocolate can spark joy, encourage reminiscing and (let us be honest) make the afternoon tea trolley the most popular vehicle in the building. Here is our (only partly tongue-in-cheek) guide to enjoying the festivities:

One bar to rule them all: Whether you prefer silky milk or the sophisticated snap of dark, today is your licence to indulge – within individual dietary plans, naturally.

Share and share a bite: Passing a plate of chocolates is an instant conversation-starter. Residents trade childhood memories, staff swap favourite flavours, and visitors secure instant popularity.

Cocoa-powered cognition: Research suggests that flavanols in dark chocolate may support brain health – a handy excuse if anyone asks why the activities team have hidden the fruit bowl.

Mind the wrappers: Eco-friendly recycling bins are standing by. Even chocolate celebrations bow to our sustainability drive – because saving the planet should taste good too.

So raise a (non-spilling) mug of hot chocolate, break out the selection box and join us in declaring: “Resistance is futile; chocolate has arrived!” Wishing residents, families and colleagues a sweet-natured, laughter-filled World Chocolate Day.

During Social Isolation Awareness Week, PH Care Group reflect on the vital role that connection and community play in enhancing the lives of people living with dementia.

Our commitment is to create quality care home environments where every resident feels safe, valued and engaged. Regular family visits, warm friendships with staff and fellow residents, and meaningful social activities help to lift spirits and prevent loneliness.

Through person-centred care, we ensure each resident’s history and interests are honoured, fostering genuine companionship and trust. We know that high-quality surroundings and comforting routines make a real difference. Our homes are designed to feel welcoming and familiar, with safe communal areas for conversation and shared experiences.

Engaging with others has clear emotional and cognitive benefits. Bringing a smile to someone’s face through a memory-sharing session or a friendly chat can reduce anxiety, boost mood and stimulate the mind. Meaningful interactions provide reassurance and purpose, helping residents stay mentally active and supported.

Family involvement and community connections are at the heart of our approach. Encouraging relatives and friends to visit regularly, participate in activities or even connect via video call can deeply enrich a resident’s day.

Every act of companionship – whether it’s holding a hand, listening to a story or sharing laughter – contributes to well-being and affirms that nobody in our care should feel alone.

This week, we celebrate the positive impact of togetherness and reminiscence. By championing person-centred care and genuine human connection, PH Care Group helps create moments of joy and comfort.

Our residents’ emotional, psychological and cognitive well-being is strengthened whenever someone comes through the door with a kind word or a caring presence.

International Women in Engineering Day - Celebrating the Women Who Paved the Way

Today, at PH Care Group, we proudly celebrate International Women in Engineering Day by honouring the incredible women living in our care homes – many now in their late 70s, 80s, 90s, and even approaching 100 – who once built, designed, and engineered the world around us.

From wartime factories to pioneering roles in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, these remarkable women challenged norms, broke barriers, and laid the foundation for future generations.

Today we not only look back with admiration at their achievements, but we also look forward with hope and pride for their daughters and granddaughters who are following in their footsteps – proving that engineering has always had a place for brilliant, determined women.

Here’s to the trailblazers of yesterday, the role models of today, and the engineers of tomorrow.
