Vinyl Record Store Day

When we think of a vinyl record store, a certain atmosphere comes to mind — that tucked-away corner shop, slightly dimly lit, with a rare track playing softly (or sometimes loudly) through the record player. The gentle crackle of vinyl, the sound of sleeves being flicked through, and the quiet buzz of people searching for that one special record.

There’s something unmistakable about it — the excitement of spotting a long-sought-after Bowie album, a classic Pink Floyd record, or a hidden gem you didn’t even know you were looking for. And of course, that unique scent of a record shop… a blend of nostalgia, history, and music.

Today, we celebrate the power of music and the memories it brings. Across our homes, music plays a vital role in reminiscence — sparking conversations, reconnecting people with moments from their past, and bringing joy through familiar sounds.

From 7-inch singles to 10 and 12-inch classics, everyone has a favourite that takes them back to a special time.

So, we’d love to know — what’s your favourite record?

Game & Puzzle Day ️

There’s no better way to enjoy the longer, brighter days than with a warm cup of tea or coffee and a good puzzle, crossword, or quiz.

Across our homes, our residents thoroughly enjoy activities that keep the mind active and engaged. From word searches and crosswords to quizzes and board games, these moments are not only enjoyable but play an important role in supporting cognitive wellbeing and maintaining problem-solving skills.

Activities like these encourage concentration, stimulate memory, and provide a sense of achievement — all while creating opportunities for social interaction, laughter, and friendly competition.

At PH Care Group, we understand the importance of meaningful engagement. By incorporating games and puzzles into daily life, we support our residents to remain mentally active, connected, and fulfilled.

What’s your favourite puzzle or game to relax with?

Today, we celebrate the importance of Community Connections

Maintaining strong links with the local community is a vital part of life in our homes. Staying connected helps to promote independence, wellbeing, and a continued sense of belonging — ensuring that moving into care never means losing touch with the world around you.

At PH Care Group, we are proud to build and nurture meaningful relationships every day. Whether through our engaging activities programme, visits from local groups, or the support of professionals such as district nurses, GPs, ambulance services, hairdressers, delivery drivers, and our local police force — each connection plays an important role in enriching the lives of our residents.

These interactions not only support high-quality care, but also bring familiarity, conversation, and a sense of normality into daily life. They strengthen trust, encourage social engagement, and create opportunities for residents to remain active members of their wider community.

Community connections truly matter — they enhance quality of life, support holistic wellbeing, and reflect our commitment to providing care within a warm, inclusive, and outward-facing environment.

There’s something special about the smell of baking!

Who remembers walking into their grandparents’ home and being welcomed by the comforting aroma of freshly baked cakes, warm bread, or biscuits just out of the oven? Those familiar scents have a way of bringing back memories of warmth, love, and togetherness.

Today, across our homes, we’re celebrating those nostalgic baking smells — moments that spark reminiscence, conversation, and smiles. From classic Victoria sponge to freshly baked bread, it’s not just about the food, but the memories and feelings they bring with them.

Reminiscence plays such an important role in wellbeing, and it’s wonderful to see how something as simple as a familiar smell can connect people to cherished moments from the past.

We’d love to hear from you — what is your favourite baking smell?
