🏏 COMMON CRICKET INJURIES 🏏

Injuries can occur frequently in cricket, affecting both the lower and upper body.

Quadriceps strains are common due to the demand for sprinting and high speed running, with frequent accelerations and decelerations. This is most likely to occur when sprinting between wickets or running to field the ball.

Also, shoulder rotator cuff injuries can occur as a result of repeated throwing movements - from bowling or fielding.

💪 RESULTS from a deep tissue sports massage session showed an increase in calf range of motion.

Ankle dorsiflexion increased by 6° and weight bearing lunge test results increased by 5cm.

🏃‍♂️‍➡️ This client is a rugby player and is generally very active. He’d been experiencing calf cramp and upon assessment we found a reduced range of motion in both his gastrocnemius and soleus.

His range of motion was greatly improved actively and passively after the massage, and he felt looser and ready for training and game day 😄🏉.

🏋️‍♀️🏃‍♀️‍➡️ COMMON CROSSFIT / HYROX INJURIES 🏃‍♀️🏋️‍♀️

Injuries can be common in CrossFit and Hyrox, but the type and location vary depending on the disciplines and exercises performed.

🏃‍♂️‍➡️ Tendinopathies (especially lower limb i.e. achilles, patellar tendons etc) occur frequently due to the repetitive nature of the sports. Achilles tendinopathies occur as a result of repeated loading from running, jumping and stepping up.

Additionally, strains are common due to exerting the muscle more than it can tolerate and/or overstretching it. Since CrossFit and Hyrox both have timed elements, athletes stretch the muscle too far under load, leading to a muscle strain ⏱️.

🤕🏋️ Injuries like these require an assessment, rehabilitation and hands-on treatment where appropriate.

🏆💆‍♀️ Also, for athletes training and competing in CrossFit and/or Hyrox, maintenance massages to reduce tightness and stiffness are extremely important to help reduce injury risk 📉.

Got a great review from a client today 🙏. She initially booked in for a massage but we thought it would be better to assess the injury in order to see exactly what was going on, then provide an appropriate treatment and rehab plan.

It was definitely worth doing an assessment, and she still got a massage in the end! 😆💪

🤸‍♂️ COMMON GYMNASTICS INJURIES 🤸‍♀️

Injuries can be common in gymnastics, but the type and location vary depending on the style disciplines performed.

Ankle sprains occur frequently due to the repeated requirement to land from jumps, tumbles and dismounts. High forces are produced during these movements, leading to increased loads on the joint. The ankle ligaments are therefore at greater risk of injury when combining this with instability, insufficient strength or incorrect landing technique.

Similar injuries occur in the wrist and elbow during tumbles, push offs and repeated handstand loading.
