Happy bank holiday Monday - for today’s Meet the team Monday it’s the turn of optometrist Dawn.
Having graduated from Cardiff university in 2001, Dawn worked across a variety of practices across the south Wales valleys, and from Swansea to Weston super Mare - and in 2019 joined Arbuthnots. Dawn particularly enjoys taking care of our younger patients, hopefully setting them up for a lifetime of good eyecare and eyewear that they love wearing!
Dawn previously served on the regional optical committee for a number of years, and is currently a trustee for local charity Vale for Africa.
Lots of Dawn’s spare time is devoted to her dog, Snoopy - together they have won lots of rosettes for their efforts in dog parkour!

James Davies is an optometrist at Arbuthnot Opticians in Barry and Penarth. 👁️

James says about being an optometrist: “I enjoy the urgent eye care, helping people out who are experiencing problems.”

If you have an urgent concern about your eyes, you can receive an urgent eye examination at your nearest high street optician. This will be free of charge under the NHS.

You can expect an in-depth examination with a discussion on the history and symptoms of the condition. Optometrists have high-powered microscopes which allow them to see both the front and the inside of the eye in detail. They can take photographs and scans to help build a picture of the issue and work out the best treatment plan.

James advises: “If you call your local practice, we will arrange to see you urgently. If we can't see you urgently, we will work with our neighbouring practices to arrange an appointment.”
