🚨 Important Update: Changes to NHS Dentistry in Wales from 1st April 🚨
From 1st April, NHS dental services across Wales are changing.
🦷 What’s changing?
• The current Band system (Bands 1, 2 & 3) is being replaced with a new care package model based on patient need
• Dentistry will move towards a more prevention-focused approach, prioritising those with the greatest need
• Routine check-ups may be less frequent and based on your individual oral health risk
• Patient charges are changing — you may be asked to contribute up to 50% of treatment costs, with a maximum cap of £384 per course of treatment (excluding lab fees)
💷 New example charges include:
• Examination from £25
• Fillings from £36.03
• Root canal treatments from £91.18
• Crowns/bridges from £140.44
(Please note: costs vary depending on the treatment required, and lab fees may apply to certain items.)
👨👩👧 Who still gets free NHS dental care?
Many patients will continue to qualify for free treatment, including:
• Children under 18
• Pregnant women or those who have had a baby in the last 12 months
