Every day people sit in Hospital on the 'verge' of being discharged only to be told they can't go because one service or another is not prepared for their discharge.
This is a REAL problem, commonly in the media called 'bed blocking'.
It is stated on various sites that the cost of staying in hospital is around £400/day but realistically we know this amounts to much much more.
Blocking these beds have a knock-on effect on the NHS, Ambulance services, and waiting times when you are admitted or visit your local A&E.
Longer stays in hospital are associated with increased risk of infection, low mood, and reduced motivation, which can affect a patient’s health after they’ve been discharged and increase their chances of readmission to hospital.
Often this can be because their current Care Agency / New Care Agency don't have the numbers of staff to cover their return on the day or these staff shortages can delay this return home.
We aim to work with Local Hospitals / Social Services to try and bridge that INTERIM gap until ' normal service ' resumes.
It may be for a day or a week or longer in some instances, 1 call a day or 4, or anywhere in between.

Remember, 'Winter is Coming' and that's not a hint that there's going to be a new season of Game of Thrones, it means that this crisis we are currently in will get much worse.
