‘Will hypnosis actually work on me!?’

I hear this a lot! It’s understandable why.. because the way that hypnosis is portrayed is often that it’s some kind of magic wand, or we are ‘put under’ in this state of trance.

In all honestly this isn’t how hypnosis works. It’s a totally natural function of the brain, that hypnotherapists utilise in therapy to gently help clients build positive beliefs and thought patterns, and process built up stress and emotion.

It’s a fantastic tool to help clients make incredible changes!

If you’ve been living in ‘survival mode’ for a while, it might take the brain a short while to feel safe enough to get into that lovely relaxed state, simply because it’s learned to be on high alert! But just like with anything else, every single time you do it, you’re building that skill and it gets easier to switch off.

Hypnotherapy can help in so many ways, but at the centre of it all….. is your relationship with YOU.

One of the biggest shifts that can happen, is when someone learns to have their own back through life.

Life is full of ups and downs. There’s going to be curve balls, sometimes things happen that we could never have imagined or prepared for.

But when we learn to back ourselves, to speak to ourselves with softness, to recognise what we do well instead of constantly being our own worst critic, to show up for ourselves even when it means putting in the work because we know we deserve the result.

This is where true confidence and resilience comes from. Knowing that, no matter what happens, you’ll get through it because you’ve got your own back. Thats something that nobody else has the power to take away.

What you focus on…. Gets bigger. 🌸

Often, when clients first come to hypnotherapy they’ve been spending a lot of time in fight or flight mode with an unregulated nervous system. When this happens, the brain is wired to start looking out for danger and becomes hyper-vigilant. This can lead to negative or anxious cycles of thinking, and we might find that those worried thoughts start to feel all consuming.

A significant part of my job as a hypnotherapist, is to help you learn how to gently rewire your brain, and move away from those negative cycles.

When we have the ability to choose where to put our focus instead, that’s when we can start to pour our energy and attention into other areas of our lives, and suddenly those areas can grow.

I often describe this like a garden. If only the weeds were watered, they would take over. It’s all you would be able to see in that garden.
But start to plant some seeds, water and care for them, they will start to bloom, and those weeds will no longer have the energy needed to grow.

The great news is- while we can’t always control the circumstances or situations we face in life, we can learn to control our own thoughts- and It’s our thoughts that create how we feel, and so much of the reality we experience!

Did you know that it’s a common misconception that having low confidence is an unchangeable part of who we are?

If we want to have more self confidence, there are plenty of ways that we can start to grow confidence, step by step!

A few ways of growing self confidence are:

🌟cultivating discipline- when we show up for ourselves and follow through with things we have said we are going to do, or know we should do.

🌟 Positive self talk- talking to ourselves kindly, and with respect. You deserve that same respect and kindness that you would give anyone else.

🌟 Venturing out of your comfort zone- doing things that you know are going to be beneficial in some way, even if it feels a little scary at first.

🌟 Having personal boundaries- putting things in place to protect your time, energy, well being and what’s important to you!

🌟 Taking care of your health and wellbeing as a priority- treating ourselves well says ‘I am worthy and deserve to be taken care of properly.’

This can look like:

Constant rushing..

Feeling irritable or snappy..

There’s always so much on your mind..

Speeding through every task..

‘Nothing changes, if nothing changes’ what do I mean by that?

Well.. change happens through action. The small things we do every day, our habits, routines, interactions, behaviours and thoughts compound over time and make up who we are and the life we have.

If we want to change how we feel on the inside, it’s more than likely that somethings will have to be done differently on the outside.

It won’t always feel comfortable making changes, and that’s because we’re going against engrained patterns in the brain, in order to make new ones. But it does get easier and easier every time!

It’s through taking action that we can start to change not only our external world, but our internal one too. ✨

The start of a fresh new year for many of us is a prompt to review and evaluate where we’re at in life. We might be making plans, changes or setting goals.

It’s so important while we’re looking forward, to also look inward. The truth is, in order to succeed, our needs must be met! If we’re so busy powering through, or taking care of everything except ourselves, then we won’t have the capacity to make those changes, meet those goals or bring our visions to life!

So my question to you today isn’t just about what you want to achieve in 2026…. It’s about what YOU need in order to thrive in 2026. What are the things that fill up your cup and allow you to show up as the best version of yourself?
