April is Sports Eye Safety Month! 👀🏀⚽

Whether you're on the field, court, or pitch, protecting your eyes is just as important as wearing the right gear. Thousands of eye injuries happen every year during sports but many are preventable with proper eyewear.

👓 Wear sport-specific protective goggles or glasses
🥎 Be aware of fast-moving balls and equipment
🧢 Use helmets or face shields where appropriate
👁️ Don’t ignore eye injuries, get them checked immediately

Clear vision keeps you in the game. Make eye safety part of your winning strategy this April!

Hayfever season. ☀️
People suffering with itchy eyes in recent weeks may have been experiencing an early start to the hay fever season.
With increasing temperatures in the UK, recent research indicates that hay fever symptoms are now starting earlier, with many people experiencing symptoms in early March and even in January and February.

Steps for managing hay fever symptoms in your eyes
☀️ Avoid going out in the early evening and mid-morning when the pollen count is at its highest.
☀️ Keep windows and doors closed and surfaces clear with a damp duster when the pollen count is high
☀️ Wear sunglasses when you are outdoors – wraparound styles offer more protection from pollen
☀️ Wear glasses rather than your contact lenses – especially when the pollen count is high
☀️ Rinse your eyes regularly – use a dedicated eye wash to remove any dust and pollen from the surface of the eyes. Also take regular showers and change your clothes regularly to remove the pollen from your skin and clothes
☀️ Speak to your optometrist for advice about taking eye drops

March is Brain Tumour Awareness Month.
Your eyes can sometimes give clues about more than just your vision - they can reflect signs of what's happening in your brain, too.

Some visual symptoms to watch out for include:
• Blurred vision (in one or both eyes)
• Sudden loss of vision lasting a few seconds ("greying out")
• Missing part of your peripheral vision (which may make you bump into things)
• Double vision
• Seeing flashes of light in your vision

It's important to remember - these symptoms are often linked to much more common and harmless conditions. However, if you notice something unusual, it's always better to get it checked, allowing for early detection if needed.

If you have any concerns, call us on 01446 735130 to book and appointment.

👓 Why We Recommend Hoya Sensity Lenses at Annette Dobbs Eyecare

We’re always looking for ways to make your vision clearer, more comfortable, and more convenient. That’s why we often recommend Hoya Sensity lenses.

So, what makes them special?

✨ Smart light adaptation
Hoya Sensity lenses are advanced photochromic lenses that automatically darken when you step outside and return to clear when you’re indoors. This means your eyes are protected from bright sunlight without needing to switch between prescription glasses and sunglasses.

☀️ Reliable UV protection
These lenses help protect your eyes from harmful UV rays whenever you’re outdoors, helping reduce glare and improve visual comfort in bright conditions.

🚗 Comfort in changing light
Whether you’re walking outside, driving, or moving between indoor and outdoor environments, Hoya Sensity lenses adjust smoothly to changing light levels, helping reduce eye strain and improve visibility.

👁️ Clear vision, all day
Patients love the convenience of having one pair of glasses that works in multiple lighting conditions. They’re designed to activate quickly outdoors and fade back to clear indoors, giving you comfort and clarity throughout the day.

At Annette Dobbs Eyecare, we believe your lenses should work as hard as you do. If you’re interested in lenses that adapt to your lifestyle, ask our team about Hoya Sensity lenses at your next appointment.

Building a reputation for delivering the best eyecare in Wales.

Our practice has been around since the 1920s, and our current owners Annette and David came to the helm in 1982.

Since then they have made some significant changes in practice – not least the relocation to our current premises – and have enjoyed watching the business go from strength to strength.
