🙋 What is AskMyGP?

AskMyGP is an online service which patients of the Waterfront Medical Centre can use to contact the surgery instead of calling over the phone. AskmyGP is open from 8am, Monday to Friday, until we have reached capacity for the day.

Once capacity for routine appointments has been met, this option on AskMyGP will be closed until the following working day. Surgery staff aim to respond to all requests between 8am and 5pm, making it an ideal way for patients to contact the surgery without having to pick up the phone however the telephone lines will still be available from 8am for those who do not wish to use the online service.

🙋 How does AskMyGP Work?

Using AskMyGP is quick and simple. Once registered, patients need to access the surgery website and log-on to AskMyGP to submit their request. Surgery staff will then look through the responses and take action appropriately, responding to patients via AskMyGP with either a solution or next steps. Patients must have an email address and contact telephone number to use AskMyGP.

Meet Jon, Senior Caseworker at mental health charity Platfform.

Jon supports the Seibiant Sanctuary, a service which helps people in mental health crisis across Cardiff and the Vale. The Sanctuary is open between 5pm and 1am, when many other services are closed.

Jon and the team offer advice and support either on the phone or in-person, in a safe space to breathe, connect and regulate.

The service is partly funded by the Health Board in conjunction with Platfform and offers trauma-informed and person-centred care.

The first step to access the Sanctuary is to call the NHS 111 Wales helpline by dialling 111 and pressing 2.

You can either ask directly to be connected to the Sanctuary, or the call handler will assess your needs and refer you to the service if appropriate.

Mental health difficulties can feel overwhelming, but help is always within reach. If you need to talk to someone urgently about your mental health, or you’re concerned about a family member, call 111 and press 2 to speak with a mental health professional, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The number is free from a landline or mobile.

Public Health Wales has written to parents and carers who have children in primary schools in Barry to ask them to ensure that they and their children are extra careful with handwashing, because of an outbreak of Hepatitis A in the town.

This is a viral infection that affects the liver, that in most cases is a mild illness, that most people make a full recovery from without long term health problems.

Bowel screening aims to find cancer at an early stage when treatment is likely to be more effective - early detection is key. At least 9 out of 10 people will survive bowel cancer if it’s found and treated early.

The test kit is designed to measure how much blood is in your poo and can be completed at home. Once you have sent your test your results will be back with you within two weeks. People aged between 50 and 74, and who are living in Wales are invited to take the test every two years.
