Thank you Mr M. for the wonderful feedback:
“Self care isn’t an indulgence — it’s a performance strategy.
I’ve spent years encouraging colleagues, friends, and peers to prioritise their wellbeing. Like many professionals, I believed in the principle… but didn’t always follow my own advice.
Until today.
Between a busy work and family life, caring for my beautiful but often challenging disabled daughter, Poppy, and carrying the grief of a major loss even years later - I’d convinced myself that self care was something to “fit in when I could.” And when I finally blocked out time for myself, I felt almost guilty… as if taking a moment to reset was somehow a luxury.
But today has completely reframed that thinking.
I had the privilege of experiencing a brand new to the UK hyper tech-driven medical brain stimulation and weightless dry floating therapy with the brilliant Kate Bell at her The Theta Clinic in Barton on Sea. It was unlike anything I’ve ever done — part neurological reset, part tech physical and psychological therapy — all rolled into one profoundly restorative experience.
The data alone was eye opening. It showed exactly what I suspected, but never confronted:
• I’m burnt out and running on empty
• Too much screen time
• My nervous system is crying out for support
This isn’t just about longevity — it’s about high performance.
If we want to lead, deliver, innovate, and show up fully (at work and at home), then recovery, rest, and recalibration aren’t optional. They are essential.
And to my peers — especially men in our age bracket — we don’t talk about this enough. We know the mental health statistics. We know the risks. Yet we push on, convinced we’re the exception.
We’re not.
So here’s my invitation:
Make the time. Take the day. Go for the weekend. Reset.
Kate’s clinic is just outside Christchurch — not far, but the impact is huge. You can thank me later.”
