Sad news 😭

Our playgroup is closed for good. 💔

I’m now working as a nursery nurse, but I still hoped to be able to reopen at least one of our playgroups.
Sadly, I’ve been told today that the store room I use for my toys is being turned into an office and the social club is no longer sure when or if they will be letting people hire it out, due to the covid restrictions.

That leaves me little choice, and to say I’m sad is an understatement.

I wish I knew that the last day of Playdays was Tuesday 25th February 2020.
I would have spent every minute just looking around and feeling pride for the groups that I spent 2 whole years putting my heart and soul into. 💔
I would have told you all how amazing it has been to meet you and your little ones. How much their smiles and laughter meant the world to me.

Thankyou all for being a part of my vision and my dream. ❤️😭

You were so much more than just customers to me. You were everything.🌈

Playdays has been running for over 20 years... it is the end of an era. 💔

I could not have achieved what I did without Paige. Her passion for the groups was infectious, and I will very much miss working with her.
Thankyou to everyone that has helped over the years. ❤️🌈

Goodbye Playdays 💫

Brand NEW playgroup opening in January 2021 (subject to change) to replace the current Playdays playgroups. LINK IN THE COMMENTS!

Please like and follow for the latest updates! Hope to meet you and your little stars very soon- in the meantime I will be posting ideas for activities you can do at home and the page will also be a great place to meet others that might like to meet for a walk outdoors. Under current lockdown rules you can meet one other person outdoors and under 5’s do not count in the rule. Langdon hills little stars will only reopen when we can be COVID secure, meeting all the guidelines and can operate safely. Hope to meet you soon x

It's been 7 months...
My son spent 6 weeks fighting for his life in Feb...
Then along came the pandemic.

What a year 2020 has been...

I have missed you all.
I have missed cuddling newborn babies.
I have missed seeing the little ones taking their first steps..
I have missed the messy activities, the floor covered in glitter and paint..
The sign of a good day! 💖

Most of all... I have missed YOU.
The fun we had, the support we gave each other, the love, the laughter..

I am working on opening Playdays again on a FRIDAY.
Starting in October.

Things will be different... In order to be covid secure, we must run as a 'class'.

Spaces will be limited and must be booked in advance.

We will run a music and movement session...
10-11.15am.

The class will be suitable for 0-5's.
We will have a small baby area.

45 minutes of music and movement- nursery rhymes, fun songs.
And of course... Baby shark. 😬😉

We will have hula hoops, musical instruments, bubbles, lights...

After the session, refreshments will be provided- you must bring you own mug/cup.

Temperatures will be checked on arrival, we will provide hand sanitiser.

We ask parents and carers that can, to wear a mask for the session.
(Not the children, we want to see them smiling! 😍)

Sessions will be £4 per child.
Adults free- 1 adult per child.
(Childminders are exempt from this rule.)

I will keep you updated, so keep a look out for our start date!!🙌

I have a LOT of things to finalise before we can 100% run this, in a way that we meet the covid secure guidelines.

I've missed you...... Let's do this!! 😬😬😬😬

World sepsis day. 2020❤️

August 2019.

Bella isn't well.
I think she's teething.
She's been crying all day.
Her temperature is 39... I'll give her some calpol.
Is she shaking? Oh she's shivering.
Her nappies aren't very wet are they.

111: Hi, yes, I feel a bit silly phoning. But it's my 7 month old daughter...she's got a temperature and I can't bring it down.
She's probably teething or something, but I'm not sure. She's quite distressed. She's...screaming. She doesn't really have any other symptoms...she hasn't had many wet nappies...yes. She is hot to touch..but her feet are freezing cold....

111: you need to take her to hospital immediately.

This is going to be a waste of time Sam. Hospital? I can't take her to hospital just because she's crying and probably teething. It's a bit over the top really.
But...I suppose I'll go.. Or shall I just see how she is overnight? Actually I'll go. Because her nappies are still dry. She's hot.. But why are her feet so cold?

1 hour later. Basildon hospital.

Bella is rushed through to the doctors straight after seeing the triage nurse.
'We think she's got sepsis.'
What actually is that? She doesn't have a rash?

5 days later. Bella is discharged. 5 days in hospital. Fluids, blood tests, antibiotics...
SEPSIS- she had a urinary tract infection. We did not know, how could we? It had led to sepsis.
111 heard 'freezing cold feet.'
Go to hospital.... It will be a waste of time....
But it was not a waste of time.
Sepsis caught early. Mild. But any further delay....if I had left it until the morning, she might not be here...

FEBRUARY 2020

6pm.
What's wrong Theo? Don't you want your dinner?
Wow, he must be ill if he doesn't want to eat.
He looks pale... I think he's coming down with something...

10pm.
He's been sick. It's not much. But he looks unwell doesn't he. Must be coming down with a sickness bug. I wish he could tell us how he feels...
Let's keep him downstairs tonight. Keep an eye on him.

Midnight.
He's been sick again. Not much. Tummy bug. Oh no.
Drink some water Theo.

1am.
He's been sick again. He's looking dehydrated isn't he.
Drink some water Theo.

3.30am.
I think he might need to go to hospital. He's been sick again....he's got diarrhoea...it's really bad... Help me bath him quickly and I'll call 111, see what they say..

3.35am.
He can't stand. He looks a bit....yellow.
He's....grunting. His eyes are rolling back....

999.
It's my 11 year old son. He's been sick, he looks a bit yellow. He's dehydrated I think. He can't speak. He's non verbal. He has a rare syndrome and is mentally like a toddler...he's got epilepsy but he hasn't had a serious seizure since he was 3....he's grunting, he's struggling.... Oh god. He's got a rash coming up on his thigh...
Please. Hurry.

3.50am
Ambulance.
Low blood pressure. He needs some oxygen.
3 minutes.... Phone ahead to resus..yes, blue light him now...

4am. Basildon hospital.
This is Theo and his mum...Theo was sick...Mum thinks he has a tummy bug..

4.05am.
Resus. 2 doctors.

4.10am.
15 doctors.
Shouting.
Panic.
Fear.

Is he going to be...ok?

Mum...your son is very very sick.
We need to stabilise him...we need to put him to sleep. So we can help him.

Sam? Can you come please....now. They're putting him to sleep...

His abdomen is swelling...we need to rush him for a CT scan...we will need to operate...we don't know what it is...but we believe it's his bowel...

4.30am.
Oh Sam...no. Don't cuddle me. No. I need some air. How...it was just a sickness bug... I don't understand...

4.45am.
Dad. It's me. Sorry it's early. It's Theo. He's really really sick...can you come...

4.50am.
The CT scan shows only his bowel...it's enlarged so much. It's crushing his lungs. He is too sick to be treated here, we need to get him to London....

4.55am.
We need to operate here. Now. He won't make it to London... He is very very sick... Sign this form please... We will do our best...but he is very sick. Yes he might die.
No.
No.
Can I say goodbye....

Theo. I just want you to know... I love you. I always have. I always will. Please don't go. Please.
Theo... I love you.

5am.
Resus. Empty room. Theo's blanket on the floor. Smelling his blanket. My heart is breaking.
Please God. Please. I won't ever ask you for anything else. Please.

Let's get you to the relatives room...

3 hours later.
Theo survived the surgery...but he's very sick.
The doctor is crying.
We've done all we can. Theo's bowel died inside of him...we removed it.
We couldn't begin operating for half an hour...he was just too sick.
He had sepsis...it led to septic shock....refractory shock... His organs began shutting down... He is alive. But he lost so much blood. He had a blood transfusion.
He had blood clots in his liver.
He is not stable. He is needing a lot of fluid...a lot of drugs...the ventilator...he needs to be blue lighted to London..
We don't think he will make it. We did all we could...

Thankyou....

45 minutes....blue lights. Intensive care ambulance.
Holding Theo's hand.
Please.
Don't go.
I love you Theo.

St Mary's hospital London.
Intensive care.
7 days... He is turning a corner.
We will wake him.
Day 11.... He is sick. We need to operate.
3 hours later...his Stoma twisted and became blocked. He is stable.
Day 13.... We will wake him.
Day 17.... His left lung has collapsed.
2 weeks of c-pap.
Week 3- high dependency ward.
Theo has to learn to sit up again, hold his head up, walk....
Week 4...back to Basildon.
Doctor crying... My shift ended 3 hours ago... But I had to see him... Oh Theo. We didn't think you would live...

How can I ever thank you enough... You gave our boy a chance to live....

Week 6, 2 weeks in a hospice....NG tube fed.... 19kg....

Theo came home.

Against all the odds....
Theo survived septic shock.

In the space of just 6 months, sepsis touched our lives....twice.

We lived through a nightmare.
But our nightmare had an ending.
For too many, it doesn't.
My heart was breaking...
For too many though, hearts will be forever broken.

Learn the signs.
Think... sepsis.

Just ask.....could it be sepsis?
It might just save a life.❤️

Basildon hospital.... Thankyou.❤️

❤️❤️❤To all of our wonderful families,

I'm sure most of you will know my son came home from hospital after a six week fight, he has been home 3 weeks and he is doing well!

(we have a blog page 'Be more Theo')

I told you all we were closed as he was unwell and although I haven't updated since, obviously we had to remain closed due to the pandemic.

I had big plans this year for the groups and so far 2020 has made me realise that sometimes you do not have any control over the path life can take you.💔

I hope you are all staying safe and well❤️

I really do miss you all and I miss the safe, supportive and friendly haven we all worked so hard to create.
Playdays wouldn't have been amazing without all of our incredible families💕😭

We will remain closed for the rest of 2020, regardless of how Lockdown is eased. 😔

I really do not think groups like ours would be able to open safely for quite some time.
Social distancing would not be possible..

-or at best, it would be 'challenging' 🙈 and restricted to numbers of children, toys and many other issues, which as a non profit, non childcare setting, we wouldn't be able to fund.

I wouldn't even want it to be possible- our groups are designed to be social and interactive groups for all.
My son remains in the vulnerable and high risk category- and my priority is keeping him safe and of course, all of you as well!

So we will definitely be shut for the rest of this year and we will reassess at the start of 2021. ❤️

Stay safe ❤️

'We stay isolated so that when we meet again....
No one is missing ❤️'

In this time of fear and uncertainty I hope this might bring you a smile.
So here is Theo aged 11.
my eldest child of 4.

2 major operations, a dead bowel that poisoned his insides removed.
Survived septic shock and multi organ failure. Blood clots in his liver.
Lost so much blood in surgery, had a blood transfusion
Wasn’t expected to survive the transfer to London. Blue lighted there, holding his hand for the whole 45min journey, praying for him to hold on.
Before he was put to sleep for surgery we were told to say goodbye and my heart broke into a million pieces.

In a coma for 7 days and they woke him. His lung collapsed and he was on oxygen until day 17.
Also on day 11 he was rushed for emergency surgery, a 3 hour wait to find out he had a stoma blockage.
A life ahead with a ilieostomy bag.
They think he will need a mashed/ purées diet.
I’ll be giving him blood thinning injections.

He’s 11 and to this day we know he has a chromosome abnormality but it doesn’t have a name.
We have no idea why his mental age is that of an 2 year old, he’s almost completely non verbal. He talks with his eyes and his smiles.
He has autism and epilepsy, and ages 1-3 we nearly lost him 5 times.

We don’t know what the future holds as the doctors here have never seen this.
We’ve allowed a research nurse to take extra blood from him. It may help another child in the future.

Day 11-13 he was in a coma again. He woke and gradually got better..

Day 19 we left intensive care and went to a high dependency ward.
Day 21 he ate food and drank water for the first time in 21 days.

It’s been a journey of ups and downs but he could be home in a couple of weeks 🌈❤️
It’s been the worst time of my life but being strong was the only option.❤️

Here he is on day 22....
I knew you could do it Theo.

Not all superheroes wear capes.
Some wear dinosaur pyjamas ❤️🌈🙌

(Basildon hospital saved his life and I would love to thank two doctors in particular that gave my boy a chance to live.
I have photos of the two I want to thank. How do you even thank someone for this. I owe them everything.
If anyone works there and can help me find them please PM me and I will send the photos. He is being transferred back to Basildon very soon 🤞)

A reminder that all our groups are shut and extremely hard for me to say this but I’m not sure if or when we will reopen.

My son is on day 13 in intensive care in London after we nearly lost him last week. He had to be rushed down to surgery Saturday night for another operation, his second major op in less than 2 weeks.

He is awake and making improvements each day but we have no idea what the future will hold.

We have a long way to go yet. And when we do eventually come home Theo is going to need to recover before he is back at school.
His care needs are much more than before and I can see us having to go in and out of hospital a lot.

I really miss the groups, I miss you all, I miss my old life, my children, my home. Most of all I miss my happy little boy and I want him back properly.

Please feel free to add me as a friend to follow our journey ❤️
