Meet Lily, Basil, Boston, Willis and Toffee! 🐕 🧁☕️

We served barking mad brownies and dog friendly pup-cakes at today's Dog Cafe 😀

There is something truly magical about the moment a dog walks through our doors. While we love the wagging tails and soft purrs, pet therapy is about so much more than just a cute visit! For our residents, these visits are a vital part of life at Dashwood Manor. Spending time with animals is proven to lower stress and blood pressure. For those living with dementia, a gentle nuzzle can unlock precious memories and encourage meaningful conversation. Animals don’t need words to communicate. They offer a unique kind of companionship that fights loneliness and warms the heart ❤️

We recently hosted a bingo afternoon for our residents, bringing everyone together for some fun and shared laughter 🤩

The theme included “luxury prizes,” which added a light-hearted and creative twist to the game. Each prize revealed a playful interpretation:
✨ A “spa experience” was a face mask
🏋️‍♀️ A “private workout” was a cloth and gloves
🍜 A “Japanese meal for one” was a pot of noodles and matcha drink
🏖️ A “trip to the seaside” was salt & vinegar crisps, a chip fork and shells
💪 A "tattoo experience" was a non permanent transfer
🐕 A "dog adoption" was a chocolate dog!
🛌 "breakfast in bed" was a mini box of cereal and eye mask
🫖 An "afternoon tea" was a biscuit and tea bag
The activity sparked plenty of smiles and conversation, creating a warm and engaging atmosphere for everyone involved.

Moments like these highlight the importance of connection, humour, and enjoying simple pleasures together.

HOT CROSS BUN TASTING 🤩

With 15 different flavours to score out of 10, we had plenty to think about! From cheese, lemon and tiramisu to carrot cake, ginger and rhubarb, and even strawberries with clotted cream – there were some delicious and surprising combinations to try! Residents and team members sampled them all and rated their favourites. After plenty of discussion (and a lot of taste testing!), the winner was St Clements, thanks to its wonderfully strong orange flavour 🍊✨

🚴‍♀️ Our Cycle Challenge has begun! 🚴‍♀️

Win and Shirley were the first to kick off this month’s Cycle Challenge, where we will be cycling the distance from Dashwood to Edinburgh! We’ll be clocking up the miles all the way until the end of March.

Shirley was determined to ride the first 7 miles, in honour of her 7 mile ride to work when she was just 15 years old. Back then, she worked in a shop before later becoming a tracer in a drawing office. She told us that was where she met her husband — he would lean on her desk, and Shirley would tell her colleagues how much it annoyed her! They went on to be happily married for over 67 years 💛

Shirley said she loved cycling to work, especially as she lived in the beautiful New Forest. When asked what advice she would give to her 15-year-old self, she said
"Live life, save money, and spend your time with the right people."

Next up on the static bike was Win. She said she couldn’t remember ever riding a bike as an adult, but she thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Win will be turning 100 years old in July, and her best piece of fitness advice is simple and wise
"Keep your legs going, you need them to be strong!"

After their rides, the Lifestyle team treated the ladies to a trip Fuelab, where they enjoyed delicious mango and coconut protein smoothies, packed with flavour and the perfect post-workout treat. If you’re looking for a post-workout refreshment yourself, be sure to check out their truck in Chineham! 💪🥤

Love to Move was created by the British Gymnastics Foundation (BGF) as a programme of exercises developed to have physical, emotional and cognitive benefits. The simple, repetitive seated exercises use what’s called bilaterally asymmetrical movement patterns, which simply means doing different movements with the right and left sides of the body at the same time. (Think patting your head and rubbing your stomach!) The exercises engage the left and right hemispheres of the brain, and research has shown that they make a difference to the quality of life of older people, especially those living with dementia.

The Knit and Natter Club is on a mission! 🧶🙌

Our newest project is supporting the incredible team and families at Basingstoke Hospital. We are creating soft, handmade cannula covers to provide a little extra comfort for the babies in their care.
