Have you ever tried dry brushing? 🌿
One brush. One ritual. Five minutes a day.
Dry brushing stimulates lymphatic circulation, smooths the skin and awakens the body β€” before you've even had your morning coffee.
This brush is available in studio for just Β£18.
Natural wood, soft bristles, Gaia Zen logo engraved. A small daily luxury.
πŸ“ Ask me in studio or send me a DM.

Dandelion root doesn't steep β€” it simmers.
This is a decoction, not a teabag. Cold water, slow heat, fifteen minutes. Then the fire goes off and the mint goes in.
In Chinese Medicine, spring is the season of the Liver. This monthly ritual is my way of working with that energy β€” gently, intentionally.
One cup in the sun. That's enough.
🌿 Dandelion & Mint Decoction β€” April's ritual at Gaia Zen Shiatsu.

What does the research actually say about massage therapy and Shiatsu?

A review published in the International Journal of Neuroscience (Field et al., 2005) found that massage reduced cortisol β€” the body's primary stress hormone β€” by an average of 31%, while serotonin and dopamine increased by approximately 28–31%.

For Shiatsu specifically: a 2024 randomised controlled trial demonstrated significant reductions in pain and anxiety, and a controlled study on fibromyalgia patients showed measurable improvements in pain intensity, sleep quality and overall health after 8 weeks of Shiatsu treatment.

The body responds to skilled, intentional touch. That's not belief β€” it's biology. 🌿

A look behind the scenes of the Emotional Massage with Bach Flower Remedies. 🌸
Every oil I prepare is unique β€” made by hand, with remedies chosen specifically for the person receiving the treatment. The selection is based on a short emotional questionnaire, so that what goes into the bottle truly reflects what that person is carrying right now.
During the session, the oil works on the body. Afterwards, it's yours to take home and continue the support through gentle self-massage.
If you'd like to know more, or receive the questionnaire, just get in touch. 🌿

April's crystal is Tiger's Eye β€” the stone of clarity, grounded courage, and decisive action. πŸ’Ž
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Gallbladder meridian governs our capacity to make decisions and act on them with good timing and clear judgement. When it is out of balance, we find ourselves hesitating, second-guessing, or circling choices without ever quite landing on them.
Tiger's Eye works beautifully alongside this meridian. Its warm golden energy supports confidence in decision-making, helps quiet fear-based thinking and self-doubt, and brings a grounded mental clarity that cuts through overwhelm.
It resonates with the Solar Plexus chakra β€” the seat of personal power β€” and carries a steady, anchoring quality that is deeply reassuring during periods of transition or uncertainty.
This is a stone for anyone who knows what they need to do, but needs a little support in actually doing it.
Available in the studio. Pop in to choose yours, or message me directly. πŸ’Ž

The Emotional Massage with Bach Flower Remedies is one of the most personal treatments I offer β€” because no two people carry the same things, and no two oils are ever the same.

Before booking, I ask you to complete a short questionnaire about how you're feeling emotionally right now. Your answers guide the flower selection. The massage works on the body. The personalised oil goes home with you.

Get in touch if you'd like to receive the questionnaire. 🌸

A simple self-Shiatsu practice for both the Liver and Gallbladder meridians β€” two pathways of the Wood Element you can work on at home.

Inner leg for the Liver: emotional balance, flexibility, smooth flow of Qi.
Outer leg for the Gallbladder: courage, decision-making, lateral release.

3–5 minutes each side. Will you try it?

Did you know the Gallbladder meridian runs all the way from the temples to the fourth toe β€” zigzagging along the entire lateral line of the body?

In TCM, it governs far more than digestion. It's the seat of courage, decision-making, and the capacity to act with clarity and timing.

April is here β€” and Spring is fully in bloom.

The Wood Element is at its peak, and with it comes the invitation to move forward with clarity, courage, and intention. This month's focus: the Gallbladder meridian β€” the energetic seat of decision-making, judgement, and the capacity to act.

As March draws to a close, I find myself thinking about everything we explored this month β€” the Liver meridian, the Wood Element, simple practices to support the body through the transition into spring.
Did you try the Makko Ho? Make the tea? Work with Liver 3?
April continues the journey β€” this time with the Gallbladder meridian, the decision-maker of the Wood Element. Same season, deeper layer.
I'll be back in the studio from 7 April. If you'd like to book a session, now is a good time β€” spaces fill up quickly. πŸ”— Link in bio.

Do you carry tension in your neck and shoulders? In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is rarely just a muscular problem.
The Gallbladder Meridian runs through the temples, down the neck, and across the shoulders. When it's blocked β€” often due to stress, unexpressed emotions, or simply carrying too much for too long β€” it shows up as tension headaches, cervical stiffness, and a jaw that never quite unclenches.
Every treatment I offer is designed to address exactly this β€” helping the body release what it has been quietly holding, and remember how to flow again.

Moxibustion is one of the oldest healing practices in Traditional Chinese Medicine β€” and one of the most underrated.
Moxa, made from dried mugwort, is burned near specific acupuncture points to bring deep, sustained warmth to the meridians. The heat penetrates far beyond the surface, helping the body release what it has been holding β€” muscular tension, stagnant energy, fatigue accumulated over winter.
In this video I'm working on Liver 3, combining Moxibustion with acupressure for a deeper effect.
Available as a standalone treatment or integrated into a longer Shiatsu or massage session. If you're curious about whether it's right for you, get in touch β€” I'm happy to tell you more. πŸ”₯
