Meet one of our Doctors!

Dr Kate Hutchings is a Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultant at Circle Reading Hospital and is experienced in working with both elite and recreational athletes. Kate qualified from Birmingham Medical School in 1997 and gained Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2003.

Having worked in Sydney during the 2000 Games, she returned to the UK to work in Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) and gained her Masters with distinction in 2004 from University College, London. She has also held a GP position in South West London from 2003 to 2010.

She completed her Specialist training in SEM from Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust and is on the General Medical Council Specialist Register. She has trained in a variety of disciplines including Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Exercise Medicine, Public Health and Emergency Medicine and is skilled in the use of diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound guided injections.

Kate is also involved in promoting the importance of physical activity in chronic disease management and is co-author of the NHS document 'A fresh approach'.

Kate has experience in working with both professional and recreational teams from a wide variety of sports. Her previous positions include working for the English National Ballet as company doctor and she is experienced in looking after the female athlete and related medical issues. She has also held positions at Chelsea Football Club academy division, Oxford University Rugby Team and has travelled with both UK Athletics and the GB synchronized swimming team to world championships.

She has developed and led NHS musculoskeletal clinics at Crystal Palace, London for a number of years looking after recreational sports men and women. During the London 2012 Olympic Games, Kate worked as a Sports Physician at the Aquatic Centre as part of the medical team looking after swimming and diving.

In 2018, Kate was part of the medical head quarters looking after the England Olympic Team at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Meet one of our Doctors. Get in touch if you think he might be able to help you!

Dr Mike Rossiter MB BS, MSc, FRCP, FFSEM (UK) is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) , MSK Lead at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Vice President for the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine.

Away from his NHS work, he has also worked with a variety of professional sports for 20 years, including Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for GB Hockey, attending four Commonwealth and three Olympic Games (including the Gold medal for the Women at Rio 2016) as well as European and World Cups as the team doctor. He has been club doctor at London Irish, Southampton FC and CMO for GB Synchronised Swimming and worked as a Sports Physician for the English Institute of Sport, at Bisham Abbey, for 9 years, treating elite able-bodied and disabled athletes across many sports. He is one of the match day doctors at Twickenham covering immediate care for the players or as one of the independent match day doctors for concussion (including the Rugby World Cup final in 2015), tutor on the RFU’s Pre-Hospital Immediate Care in Sport Course and independent match reviewer for concussive events in Rugby from Premiership to International matches. His was CMO for Team England CMO for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, CMO for Team GB at The European Games 2019 and has been appointed as Team GB Deputy CMO for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games and Team England CMO for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Other roles include Premiership Rugby Medical Advisor (including leading on Covid-19 policy relating to professional sport) and he is part of the UK anti-doping medical committee

He regularly sees children, adolescents and adults of all abilities with sport, exercise or musculoskeletal-related conditions, including:

- Joint and muscle pains, including osteoarthritis
- Soft tissue injuries
- Fatigue relating to exercise
- RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency Syndrome)
- stress fractures
- breathing/chest issues related to exercise
- exercise advice relating to chronic illness
- sports-related concussion
- medication relating to sport/exercise
- disability issues relating to sport/exercise
- exercise during/after pregnancy
- exercise in the elderly
- tendon-related issues (including the use of shockwave therapy and PRP injection therapy)
- exercise induced leg and arm pain, including compartment syndrome.
