We are receiving a large number of enquiries about the Meningococcal B (MenB) vaccine following the recent situation in Kent. We hope the following helps clarify the current NHS Guidance.
• The MenB vaccine has been part of the NHS routine childhood vaccination schedule only since 1st July 2015.
• Children born before this date would not have received MenB as part of their routine NHS vaccinations, unless they had it privately.
• The NHS only provides MenB vaccination outside the routine programme for specific medical conditions, such as asplenia, spleen dysfunction, or sickle cell disease.
• We are unable to offer MenB vaccinations for children over 2 years of age unless they meet these NHS clinical criteria
We understand this is a worrying time and thank you for your patience as we manage increased enquiries.
If you have concerns about your child’s vaccination history or think your child may be at higher risk, please contact the practice via eConsult and our clinical team will be happy to advise.
