I say it every year, but please be careful and sensible with your pets in this heat. This is a great graphic (to go along with the many others I’ve shared over the years)

You don’t need us to tell you it’s hot! 🔥

Please remember during this stint of warmer weather to keep your pets cool to help reduce the risk of heatstroke.

If you suspect your pet is getting too hot, don’t wait. Always act immediately, as heatstroke can rapidly become an emergency.

- Remove them from the hot environment immediately
- Apply or spray cool water (never ice-cold) onto the animal’s fur and skin
- Apply a fan/fanning to maximise heat loss

If your dog has developed heatstroke, you should always take them to your local vet for help, even if the signs are mild.

It’s going to be a warm one! Our plans have changed, it’s too hot for the pups to stick with the original one. So staying at home and Izzy has her beach set up!!

It’s been 6 weeks since we brought our new head of staff well-being home. We had completely forgotten how hard puppies are. Sleep deprivation is an incredible form of torture and those puppy teeth!! The pain! But it got me thinking about our dogs development and I always remember an x-ray I saw at uni of a puppy’s bones and joints (or rather lack of joints!). They have so much development to do, caution must be taken not to over exercise. The general rule is 5 minutes per month of age plus 5. Easier said than done though, puppies are bonkers! Happy bank holiday weekend!

I am back! I am very aware that I have not been active on here over the past year. Working in the NHS during the COVID pandemic has been exhausting, and I have continued to struggle with my knee injury. Luckily, I had my knee surgery in December, and I’m busy working very hard on my rehab. I hope to continue to post interesting content, or at least cute animal pictures. To start things off, here is my gorgeous furry niece, just for your attention 😊

This weekend I received the heartbreaking news that this beautiful girl had crossed over the rainbow bridge. I had the honour of treating her a couple of years ago, and it’s fair to say she left a mark! The sweetest and most cuddly girl I’ve had the pleasure of treating. She lost her front right leg last year after an elbow fusion that she never quite recovered from, and she adapted to life as a tripod amazingly. Sadly this week, she was diagnosed with lymphoma and she passed away yesterday. Everyone deserves to see this little smile, and if anyone wants to follow to the rest of her gangs adventures, they are on Instagram, . Big hugs to Emba and the fluffs. Run free Echo 😘🌈

This little pup has really been struggling in the heat. But being wrapped up in a puppy pad that has been in the freezer seems to be working wonders!!

HOW TO HELP YOUR DOG BE COMFORTABLE AROUND FACE MASKS
Introducing your dog to seeing people wearing face masks in the familiar home environment can reduce any anxiety they may feel on encountering more people in masks when out on walks. It’s also important if your pet needs to visit your vet, as they are likely to meet members of the practice wearing masks. Getting your pet used to seeing masks prior to their visit will help minimise any distress and will make them feel more at ease during their examination by the vet. Download our infographic for some techniques you can try to help your dog be more comfortable around masks.

A very useful guide, especially as our garden appears to be currently a rehab garden for birds! Very nearly had to take one to a wildlife centre last week as 4 hours after flying into our back foot, he still hadn’t flown off. Then he heard he might have to come in my car, and suddenly he flew off 🙈
