Wessex Chiropractic

Wessex Chiropractic Wessex chiropractic offers hands-on complementary healthcare for people and animals.

Chiropractors use gentle manual therapies to manipulate specific joints and muscles. Most people think of their chiropractor as someone who can help with back pain. This is frequently true, however chiropractors are trained in the manipulation of all joints - not just the spine. Based in Basingstoke, Hampshire, we tailor our treatments to the patient - for example lots of people are nervous about coming to the chiropractor. For those who dislike the 'clicking' sound of adjustments there are comfortable alternatives. We always work within the patient's tolerance and according to the patient's likes and dislikes.

So as January enters its 453rd day the weather is NOT appealing for outdoor pursuits - although having a dog and horses does force me to get out there! I was struck by a colleague who said something along the lines of: 'cardiovascular training gets us to old age, but strength training lets us enjoy it'.

With that in mind I have changed things up a bit in this year in my exercise week - rather than 5x yoga I'm doing 2x HIIT workouts and 3x yoga. I REALLY didn't want to get up and do the HIIT yesterday but I have to say I was very cheered that the heavy jobs around the yard in the rain did feel a little easier.

Sometimes it's the little wins that we need to celebrate!

The Healthy Choices Quiz provides an easy first step for anyone who wants to feel healthier but may not know where to start.

After capturing some basic demographic information and exploring different health motivations, the quiz asks a series of lifestyle questions across six main themes: movement, eating, alcohol consumption, smoking and va**ng, mental health and sleep. You will then receive an overall score out of 10 based on your answers.

Have a go - answer it honestly, no-one is looking over your shoulder. It might give you some pointers - there's a lot of tips and resources to help you address any areas you may be struggling with :-)

Take our quiz to see how you could improve your health and wellbeing. Take the first step today – let's do this!

Exercise!! I unashamedly plug the benefits of exercise. Many people feel bored by repetitive traditional rehab exercises and uninspired by gyms - I completely undertsand that.

I was recently told about 'cat walking' or 't'ai chi walking'. It looks the most incredibly accessible way to build strength, balance and body awareness. I love the 'walking like you're on a frozen lake' analogy. Take a look at this video:

FAO dog owners. A recent incident involving the deaths of two young dogs, who had attended a breed show in the north of the country, of a respiratory illness similar to kennel cough has highlighted the emerging issue of S. zooepidemicus in the canine population. It’s worth familiarising yourselves with the symptoms and be aware if attending large events.

Not to be alarmist in any way, this pathogen has been around for a long time. But it wasn’t something I was familiar with so I would like to share this info.

Please do not bring your dogs for their appointment if showing any signs of illness. And if you have any concerns please contact your vet asap.

Happy new year! January is often a time to think about our health, and as a result a busy month for Wesssx Chiropractic.

I just got this through the post from Cytoplan, my preferred vitamin supplier. If you were thinking of getting some vitamins then now is the time to grab yourself a bargain!

If you are an existing patient and would like my business code for 10% off all future purchases then please shout.

There’s fewer than 7 weeks to go until Christmas now 🎄😳 so please do get in touch asap if you’d like to address any issues ahead of the holidays. I hate letting people down but there are only so many hours in the week 🤪. Whilst a couple of recent new patients were happily discharged after only two sessions last week we may need to schedule a longer series of care for complex/ongoing conditions.

I’ve had a couple of cancellations next week so do shout if you’re in need!

Whether you love it or loathe it - it’s Halloween!! This post from my colleague did make me chuckle 😂🤪

One of my patients has been suffering with significantly reduced shoulder function. Alongside steroid injection and physiotherapy we have been using in the area. Her range of motion has improved significantly, along with a reduction in pain and improvement in function ✅

It is this week. Migraine is much more than just a headache. It can take many forms from abdominal migraines in children; vestibular migraines which cause balance issues and vertigo; to hemiplegic migraines which cause stroke-like weakness and paralysis on one side of the body.

The Migraine Trust offers lots of help and advice for those suffering with migraine.

As a sufferer I find the NHS recommended supplements of riboflavin, magnesium and CoQ10 very helpful. I also acupuncture myself! I buy my riboflavin from Migrasoothe. The last time I ran out was a bank holiday Saturday. I ordered that morning, resigned to not receiving anything until the middle of the following week. Later that same day the parcel arrived - incredible service!!

82 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) submitted!!! 1 hour already completed for the new CPD year 🥳

Every year, as part of being a registered Chiropractor, I need to complete 30 hours of CPD and reflect on what I have learned. The title Chiropractor is protected under law - it is an offence to call yourself a Chiropractor if you are not registered with the GCC.

The year runs from September to August. I've just submitted 82 hours - this doesn't include any of my personal research but does include the work I'm doing as part of the pathway to membership of The Royal College of Chiropractors Pain faculty. I'm already a full member of the college after completing postgrad training following graduation, and a licentiate Animal faculty member due to my additional animal training :-)

Work isn't just what you see me doing in the treatment room!!

People often ask me how I can treat an animal as they can’t tell you what’s good/bad. Here’s a little clip of me treating my son’s pony - that is one happy upper lip movement! Just before the end of the clip you can hear two big clicks as his neck releases 🥰

The clinic will be closed 19/7-29/7 so please give me a shout if you’d like me to fit you in this coming week!
