A few common ones I see:

• Avoiding situations
• Constant reassurance seeking
• Googling symptoms
• Over-analysing how you feel

They all feel helpful in the moment.

But they keep the cycle going.

Because they teach your brain:
“This is something to worry about.”

Anxiety isn’t random.

Your brain is constantly scanning for threat — even subtle ones.

A thought.
A memory.
A situation.

That’s all it takes to activate the response.

Which is why it can feel like it comes out of nowhere.

It doesn’t.

There’s always a pattern.

And once you understand it, you can change it.

You’ve trained your brain to feel anxious… here’s how to undo it.

There’s a simple (not always easy) formula:

1. Understand the pattern
2. Stop reinforcing it
3. Teach your nervous system it’s safe, through graded hypnotic exposure
4. Gradually reintroduce the situation in real life
5. Repeat

That’s exactly what I guide people through in my 4-session programme.

Don’t go → relief
Stay safe → relief

But your brain logs it as:
“Good call. That was dangerous.”

And next time?

The anxiety gets stronger.

The worst thing you can do for anxiety (that everyone tells you to do)

“Just push through it.”

Sometimes that works.

But for a lot of people?
It just reinforces the stress response.

Because if you push through while feeling overwhelmed, your brain goes:
“That was stressful. Let’s remember that.”

The better approach?

Gradual, supported exposure in hypnosis + retraining the response.

When your brain thinks something isn’t safe, it hits the brakes.

That looks like:
• Procrastination
• Avoidance
• Cancelling plans
• “I just can’t be bothered”

But it’s not laziness.

It’s protection.

The problem is, your brain is being a bit overprotective.
