It has been quite a while since I posted. How are you? I really hope life is treating you well.

The reason I have been so quiet, is that last May, I was unexpectedly taken ill and ended up in intensive care. I spent nearly two months in hospital and most of the last year recovering. It was a challenging time, but I am blessed with a wonderful family and friends that supported me and took care of me (and my husband and kids!). I feel so incredibly grateful for those beautiful people. 🙏🏻💜

The experience also gave me a whole new appreciation for my life coach training, which provided me with all the mindset tools I needed to navigate my way through such a difficult time. The old 'negative thinking me' would have gone into victim mode and spent a lot of time and energy on the unfairness of it all, focusing on what I had lost and feeling frustrated and sorry for myself.

Instead, what I felt was overwhelmingly grateful to still be alive, to get to see my kids grow up. The positive mindset I have cultivated over the last few years enabled me to focus on building up my strength little by little - being able to get from the hospital bed to the chair, building up the time I could sit for, working up to being able to walk to the bathroom. I celebrated each little milestone of my recovery and at each step I set myself a new target to achieve. Slowly but surely I got to where I wanted to be, I have my life back. 😀

Why am I sharing this with you? Because we all experience challenges in life, some small, some large, some earth shattering. You've been through challenging times in the past and you will go through challenging times in the future. Maybe you are in a challenging time right now?

The truth is, you can't control what happens in life. The ONLY thing you can control is how you respond to what happens. That is where the mindset you choose makes a difference to how you experience the challenging times - as a total disaster or as a something you can overcome (and grow from!).

How do you respond to difficulty? Do you feel like a victim, like life is happening to you? Do you get caught up in the unfairness and the 'what ifs'? Or do you accept what is happening and make the best of it? I'd love to know! Comment below and share your thoughts.

And if you are having a hard time right now, please know you are not alone. Reach out - my inbox is always open.

Now I am getting back to my mission, I will be posting thoughts and ideas on how you can navigate challenges with more ease and self-compassion.

In the mean time, may you be happy, may you be healthy and may your life be blessed with ease. 💜

How are you feeling today? Full of energy and raring to go or feeling drained and run down?

The last couple of years have been challenging. I've noticed a lot of mental and physical exhaustion in those around me. So how do you pick yourself back up?

Self-care is really important - making nourishing food choices, getting out in the fresh air for some exercise, making time to do things that fill you up (reading, long baths, meditating, yoga, whatever works for you). It's important to make sure you are taking care of yourself.

Another thing that can help is regular reflexology. Taking an hour for you on a regular basis, to have someone give you some TLC, someone to listen to you, to have someone focus on your needs...

If you are local to Basingstoke and need some TLC, then book a reflexology appointment today. Email or message me and let's get your cup refilled. 💜

Hello lovely people. I hope you are all well? I was really hoping to announce that I was able to open my doors for reflexology next month, but having looked at the details of the government announcement it doesn't look like I will be able to do that for a while yet. 😢

I also wanted to let you know that I have rebranded my business to add in self-empowerment coaching for women. So I will be closing this page down at some point in the next couple of months. I will still be offering reflexology but will be posting everything on my new business page, Karen Dyer - Self-Empowerment Coach, so please come and join me there if you'd like to keep up to date with my offerings. 😀

Stay safe, Karen x

Is fear controlling your life?

When we are afraid of something and avoid it, it reinforces the belief that there is something to be afraid of. If this goes unchecked it can create a negative spiral resulting in us feeling unsafe all of the time.

This is how it was for me when I suffered with anxiety. As I avoided more and more things out of fear, the more things I became afraid of, so the more things I gave up. Inaction literally created terror in me. The more I gave up to anxiety, the more it wanted.

I had to take a long hard look at my fears and realise that they weren't real. The chances of the worst happening were low to non-existent. Then I had to take action, even thought I still felt afraid, it was the only way to prove to myself that there wasn't really anything to be afraid of. The more you face the fear and take action, the less of a hold it has on you.

If you need help facing your fears then I can help. Drop me a message and lets connect...

So the next part of my adventure has begun, my business is expanding to include coaching. I will be winding this page down, so please come and join me on my new page and read my first post about why coaching is so important to me.

Hi, I'm Karen. I'm a Self-Empowerment Coach, Holistic Therapist and mum to two gorgeous boys. My mission is to empower anxious, self-critical women to build unshakeable confidence and unconditional self-love, so they can be the fearless heroine of their own story. Why is this so important to me?

For the longest time I was lost, buried under the weight of everyone else's opinions about me. Everything people didn't like about me, I took onboard and believed to be true. At school, in relationships, in friendships, at University – I picked up and held onto every single negative comment as the truth of who I was.

With each criticism I would hide that 'dislikeable' part of myself in an attempt to stop the world from seeing it and judging me. I ended up hating myself, telling myself constantly how worthless I was and how nobody liked me. I tried to hide so much of myself that I lost who I really was. I was afraid to let anyone see who I was.

Eventually, I crumbled under the weight of all my self-loathing and suffered with severe anxiety and depression. I hit bottom. I was in the darkest, scariest place of my life. It's hard to describe exactly what it was like. The best I can manage is to say it was constant, unending pain and sadness with no possibility of joy, peace or happiness. It felt like there was no light at the end of the tunnel, no way out, no hope of ever leaving. I didn't want to die, but at the time it honestly felt like the only way the pain would stop.

Thankfully, I started to get some counselling and began working through the pain. I started to see the light again. My healing journey wasn't plain sailing. There were setbacks, other things happened that sent me back into anxiety and depression, but never as badly as that first time. As the pattern of anxiety and depression kept playing out in my life, I asked myself, 'Why does it keep coming back?'

Then I realised, whilst the counselling had helped me deal with the emotional side of my experiences, it hadn't changed the way I saw my self. I still didn't like me. I realised it wasn't other people's opinions of me that were the problem, it was what I had CHOSEN to make those things mean that had done the real damage. I had been stuck in victim mode, blaming other people for how I felt about myself. I had let them dictate how I was writing my story.

When I realised I had a choice in what I believe about myself, I was able to really start changing my life for the better. If I had CHOSEN to take on those negative comments and believe them to be true, then I could CHOOSE not to believe them. I could CHOOSE to believe something better, something more loving and supportive. I could write my story however I wanted. I could CHOOSE to be the heroine of my own story.

For me that is one of the most empowering things about coaching - making people aware of unhelpful beliefs that are holding them back and helping them CHOOSE something better. This is why I chose to train as a coach. So I could write a better story for myself, to help my kids write a better story for themselves and to help other women become the heroine of their own story.

You can't choose what happens to you in life, but you ALWAYS get to CHOOSE what you make it mean.

What are you choosing?

Karen x
