Start making small changes to help with any mid back pain:

- Posture: Set your screen at eye level, feet flat, shoulders relaxed.
- Move often: Stand, stretch and reset every 45 - 60 minutes.
- Tweak tasks: Break up long desk sessions, share heavy housework, avoid prolonged overhead reaching.
- Targeted exercises: We’ll prescribe a few that fit your routine - realistic, sustainable, and specific to you.

When pain strikes in your neck and shoulders it's easy to blame it on stress or poor posture. But the pain could be driven by your mid back - thoracic spine region.

The mid back is key to good posture along with the neck and shoulders. But when your mid back becomes stiff or immobile, it can manifest itself as:

- Neck and shoulder pain
- Headaches
- Aching and/or tingling in your upper arms

If you recognise these symptoms why not pop in for a consult? Give us a call on 01246 466 266 to make an appointment.

Today is known as Blue Monday.

Called this because it is supposedly the most depressing day of the year. To be fair, this was originally created as a PR stunt by a travel company - it isn't backed by science.

However, it is recognised that January is a tough month for many people, and strong mental health is important for us all.

A positive mental attitude is a key part of healing when you are in pain, and something we advocate all the time.

Do check in on those around you today. A valuable reminder to show you care.

When to get assessed...

If pain is shooting down the leg, interrupting sleep, or stopping you from training or working, don’t wait it out. Early diagnosis tends to mean quicker improvement — and fewer repeat episodes.

Small habits, big difference...

Helpful everyday habits:

• Break up long sitting spells
• Warm up before running or sport
• Stretch hips after activity or long drives
• Strengthen glutes/core (think bridges, clams, side steps)
• Avoid prolonged leg-crossing
• Check footwear and desk ergonomics

Consistent, small changes reduce flare-ups.

What helps? Conservative care...

Most people improve with a simple plan:

• Gentle chiropractic adjustments to improve joint motion
• Soft-tissue release for tight muscles
• Targeted home exercises to strengthen glutes and core

We’ll tailor this to your needs, and may recommend massage or acupuncture if helpful.

Signs to watch for...

Piriformis Syndrome can feel like:

• Deep ache in one buttock
• “Tight knot” in the glute
• Worse with sitting, squats, lunges or stairs
• Tingling or burning down the back of the thigh

Relief often comes when you lie flat or keep gently mobile. If symptoms persist, it’s worth getting checked.

"Not all sciatica is from the back"...

Back, buttock or leg pain often gets labelled “sciatica”. In many cases a small muscle deep in the buttock — the piriformis — is the real culprit. When it gets tight or irritated, it can press on the sciatic nerve and send pain down the leg.

If this sounds familiar, an assessment can pinpoint what’s driving your pain and how to calm it.

Simple wins that add up when you suffer from Fibromyalgia:

Small, consistent steps beat boom-and-bust days. Try:

• Gentle daily movement within your limits
• A regular sleep routine
• Stress-lowering habits you can keep
• Sticking with what’s helping (supplements or routines) unless advised otherwise

Consistency builds confidence — and confidence is part of recovery.

Spotting (and managing) flare ups of Fibromyalgia

Common triggers we hear about: overdoing it, high stress, poor sleep, and stopping what was working “because I felt better”.

If a flare-up hits: scale back activity, prioritise rest, return to the basics that help you, and check in for hands-on support if you need it.

Need help calming a flare? Call 01256 466 266.
