The “Invisalign diet” is trending. I wish it wasn’t.
Women are posting about the weight loss like it’s a bonus — comments full of ✅ and 🙌🏻, and nobody’s asking any questions. I understand why. When aligners create friction around eating, the body adapts. Sometimes quickly.
But after 40, that kind of undereating doesn’t just make you tired. It disrupts hormonal balance, accelerates bone loss, breaks down muscle — and shows on your face in ways that are genuinely hard to reverse.
I’ve watched it happen in real time. Patients come in glowing about the weight. I’m looking at fragile gum tissue, receding margins, early bone changes. Nobody connected the dots. Sometimes not even the person who fitted the aligners.
Invisalign is a brilliant treatment when it’s done properly — meaning someone’s asking about more than your teeth. How are you eating? How’s your energy? Those are dental questions too.
If you’re in treatment and something feels off, please don’t wait for your final tray. Come and talk.
