Lymphatic Drainage Massage – Facts You May Not Know 👇🏼

Your lymphatic system is one of the most important… yet most overlooked systems in your body.

• You have around 600–700 lymph nodes in your body – most people don’t realise just how extensive it is
• Unlike your blood, your lymphatic system has no central pump (like a heart) – it relies on breathing, movement, and manual stimulation to flow
• Your lymph fluid carries waste, toxins, excess fluid, bacteria, and proteins away from your tissues
• Around 2–4 litres of lymph fluid moves through your body every single day
• When your lymphatic system slows down, it can contribute to puffiness, bloating, fatigue, and brain fog
• Gentle touch is key. lymphatic vessels sit just under the skin, so deep pressure can actually collapse them
• Your lymph nodes act like filters, helping your body fight infection and support your immune system
• The biggest concentration of lymph nodes is in your neck, armpits, and groin
• Poor posture, lack of movement, stress, and dehydration can all slow lymph flow
• Even something as simple as deep breathing helps stimulate lymph movement

Your body already has a natural detox system… sometimes it just needs a little support through manual lymphatic drainage massage.

Getting all of my ADHD energy out, singing my little ghetto heart out on the way to work 🎶

Work is my little escape. A place to slow down, focus, and do what I love. In the middle of a chaotic world, it’s a calm space that I have created … somewhere that I can help others, reset, and just breathe for a little bit. 🤍

Have you ever noticed that when you break out in certain places on your face, it generally tends to happen in the same area?

In Traditional Chinese facial mapping, different areas of the face are believed to reflect what may be going on internally in the body. When there is congestion, stress, or imbalance, it can sometimes show up as breakouts, puffiness, or dullness in specific zones.

For example:
• Forehead – often linked with digestion and gut health
• Between the brows – associated with liver stress or detox pathways
• Cheeks – connected to the lungs and respiratory system
• Chin and jawline – commonly linked to hormones

While it’s not a medical diagnosis, facial mapping is an interesting way to start looking at the skin more holistically rather than just treating the surface.

In treatments like facial massage and lymphatic drainage, we also focus on reducing congestion, improving circulation, and encouraging lymph flow which can help the skin look clearer, brighter, and less puffy.

Your skin often reflects what’s happening beneath the surface… sometimes it’s just asking for a little support.

Massage works directly with your nervous system, calming and de stressing you.

When pressure and movement are applied to the skin and muscles, specialised sensory receptors send signals through the peripheral nerves to the brain. These signals help shift the body from the sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight) into the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and repair).

This change reduces the stress hormone cortisol, slows heart rate and breathing, and stimulates the vagus nerve, which plays a key role in regulating relaxation and recovery.

At the same time, massage can increase the release of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, which support mood, pain modulation, and overall wellbeing.

Ever wondered what Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage is?

MLD is a very gentle, rhythmic treatment designed to support your lymphatic system the part of your body that helps remove waste, toxins and excess fluid. Using light, precise movements, this specialised massage encourages lymph fluid to move more freely through the body.

Benefits can include:
• Reducing swelling and fluid retention
• Supporting the body’s natural detox processes
• Helping with post-surgery recovery
• Boosting circulation and immune function
• Leaving you feeling lighter and deeply relaxed

Unlike deep tissue massage, MLD works with a soft, slow technique that stimulates the lymph nodes and vessels just beneath the skin.

Perfect if you’re feeling puffy, sluggish, recovering from surgery, or simply want to support your body’s natural drainage system.

Sometimes the lymphatic system just needs a little encouragement.

Ever thought, What does your massage therapist think whilst she/ he is massaging you!? What you think your massage therapist is thinking while treating you:
“Wow, their shoulders are so tight.”

What your massage therapist is actually thinking:
• Did I leave the straighteners on?
• What should I have for dinner?
• Is that knot or a marble?
• Imagine being a fly on the wall 👀
• Don’t forget to reply to that client later.
• Wow… this shoulder is basically concrete.

But don’t worry… hands are working, brain is just on over drive.
