This week, someone shared that in their NCT group of 10 mums, 8 ended up having C-sections. This is wild!  

We want you to know that just because a C-section scar has healed on the surface doesn’t mean everything underneath is moving and functioning well.

If you’ve noticed:

No two births are the same — and neither are two recoveries.

After my first (vaginal) birth, I felt open and vulnerable yet connected and strength quickly returned.
After my second (C-section), I felt tight and restricted yet needed to go gently to respect healing times and go much slower with return to strength.
Both needed a completely different approach — knowledge, strength, mobility, and trust.

Thinking about moving to France? Yes, please! It’s definitely a great idea, especially when you consider the amazing pastries and cheese. But what about postnatal care? It seems to be better there, too.

In France, mothers receive up to 20 free pelvic floor physiotherapy sessions after giving birth. In the UK, most of us get just one check-up along with a simple “good luck.”

This week, I’m guest lecturing at the University of Bath for the physiotherapy master’s program. I always include some eye-opening statistics, and one that really stands out is this: nearly half of the women experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction give up sport and impact exercise, which puts them at a significant disadvantage as they age.

There are already so many barriers for women in sports; let’s not allow pelvic floor issues to be another one.

If this resonates with you, seek help—you’re not alone, and there’s so much that can be done. This is the message I’ll be sharing with the physiotherapy students. It’s crucial to provide them with insight into pelvic health and inspire the next generation of physiotherapists to continue advancing this important mission. Hopefully, the more we discuss and learn about these issues, the quicker we can improve the statistics mentioned above.
