One of this weeks themes at Midford Manor is going Green where we look to see what we can reuse and recycle. This weeks arts and crafts group embraced this theme and residents and team worked on a selection of projects using recycled materials from across the home.

What could be better on a dark and grey afternoon than listening to some wonderful classical music being played on the violin. Our rooftop cocktail bar was full of residents who listened and enjoyed the wonderful show.

Volunteers are always welcome at Midford Manor and their visits provide so much joy to the residents. James has been with us over the last year for his work experience. We are pleased he did so well in his exams A* Chemistry, A Physics, A Maths and an A* in his EPQ. Not only was his EPQ the highest mark in the school but we are proud of the fact he did the research for it whilst on work experience with us at Midford Manor. We wish James all the best as he embarks on his medicine degree at Bristol University. Good luck James, you will be missed.

Trying new activities is something we are always keen to try at Midford Manor and the recent pottery classes have certainly given us new ideas of what we can create. This week residents have been making diffusers from clay, some chose to make them for themselves and others for gifts for loved ones. These diffusers are now drying ready for us to paint. We can’t wait to show you the finished items very soon.

We had a visit from the wonderful Hannah Glencross this bank holiday Monday. A fabulous afternoon was spent singing along to residents favourite songs in our coffee shop. It was a full house with residents, family and friends and team singing along to some well known classics.

Today we returned to Five Zeros in Bradford on Avon to enjoy a morning of fun at the state of the art Supercar Barn and Diner. Displays of impressive cars including Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Koenigsegg and Porsche to name a few! We enjoyed a coffee and made new friends along the way. A really enjoyable mornings outing exploring these classic cars which brought back great memories for those who joined us on this fantastic trip.

The last trip to Bristol Aerospace was so successful that we took a further trip there this week. One of the residents on the trip was a former BOAC Air Stewardess and another was in the RAF so this was a fascinating trip which brought back some wonderful memories of their careers in aviation.

The wellbeing team hold monthly meeting with the residents here at Midford Manor to discuss what activities and trips they want to see on our activity planner. One that keeps popping up due to the sheer joy it brings is the Holbourne Museum. One of the residents at Midford Manor used to work at this museum and has a passion for antiques so we had a great trip out a few days ago followed by some coffee and cake in the cafe there

This week we hopped on the minibus and took another fantastic trip out to the Bird of Prey sanctuary in Newton St Loe and then had a visit to Newton St Loe Farm Cafe for a lovely cuppa in the sunshine. These weekly trips bring real pleasure to the residents

Our knit & natter group doesn’t just provide an opportunity for residents to enjoy each other’s company whilst participating in a group. It also provides wonderful hats for the Neonatal unit at the RUH, here is one of the nurses on Mary Ward receiving our latest batch of hats. We would love you to join us at our weekly group, come on in and pick up some needles and idle away some time.
