Are you feeling blue?
Years ago I had a client who had a real dislike for Mondays…
She noticed it - made a few changes to her Sundays and boom just like that Mondays didn’t seem so bad after all.
If I’m ever feeling blue, moving my body usually does the trick to lift my spirits. Sometimes it doesn’t lift them in fact it seems to amplify them and that in turn seems to allow me to go through them I can’t describe it any better that it lets them out! Like a good cry 😢 in fact sometimes I’m crying and dancing at the same time and it kinda feels odd but weirdly satisfying at the same time!
Like that moment when a child is about to become upset you can see that tears are brewing but with a well timed comment you can switch those tears to laughter! This is what we’re doing in Yoga Nidra when we switch between two different sensations we‘re coaching ourselves to be able to sit with these sensations, to observe them, to be able to release them! to be able to switch ourselves from one to its opposite, Have you ever found emotions rising up whilst in your relaxation, mediatation or asana practice? The yogi’s call these “Samaskara” - they are impressions made upon the unconscious mind by one’s life experiences. These imprints on the mental pathways will color the way one perceives events and ultimately, drive one’s actions and potentially repetitive behaviour’s. So by releasing them we can have a BIG impact on so many elements of our life.
Elements of the yoga practice such as this I find particularly difficult to explain. But if you’ve ever felt it - you will know exactly what I’m talking about!
Anyways advice for surviving Blue Monday includes…
Connect - Move your body - limit any negative inputs - set a small achievable goal for the day & then feel the dopamine release! - be kind to yourself and others - be grateful 🙏
If you can get your arse to class you can hit all these!
Happy Monday folks
