Lewy body dementia (LBD) accounts for about 10% of UK dementia cases, typically affecting those over 65.

It's caused by abnormal protein deposits in the brain, leading to symptoms like vivid visual hallucinations, fluctuating performance, and sleep disturbances.

LBD can also present with motor symptoms similar to Parkinson's and cognitive issues seen in Alzheimer's. Visual processing and planning difficulties are common.

Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) is a rare form of dementia, often affecting individuals aged 45-65.

Unlike other dementias, it primarily impacts the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, leading to changes in personality, behaviour, speech, or understanding.

There are three main types:

1. Behavioural variant - Affects personality and behaviour.
2. Progressive non-fluent aphasia - Impacts speech production.
3. Semantic dementia - Affects factual memory and language comprehension.

For more information on FTD and the vital work being done at ReMind UK in dementia research, early diagnosis, and support, visit our website: https://www.reminduk.org/frontotemporal-dementia/

Join us on a journey through time as we look back at the incredible history of ReMind UK! πŸ•°οΈ From our beginnings in 1985 as 'The Research Institute for the Care of the Elderly' to becoming ReMind UK, we've been dedicated to getting ahead of dementia.

A few key milestones:

πŸ’œ 1987: Established one of the UK's first memory clinics, now a benchmark for best practice.

πŸ’œ 2008: Moved to the RUH Bath site in Bath, with our new centre opened by Sir Terry Pratchett, made possible by generous donations.

πŸ’œ 2009: Began delivering vital Cognitive Stimulation Therapy.

πŸ’œ 2021: Our memory clinic was proudly rated 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission !

Today, we continue our mission as an internationally renowned research and treatment centre. We run the NHS Memory Clinic in Bath and North East Somerset, having assessed, diagnosed, and treated over 12,000 people with memory problems and their families. Our work includes cutting-edge dementia research, expert diagnosis, and comprehensive support for those affected.

We are an independent charity committed to a world where early intervention wins, improving countless lives. We couldn't do it without the incredible generosity of our supporters!
