A study by AGE UK shows that over 75% of older adults desire to remain in their own home and community as they continue to age. Occupational therapy can help.
An OT can help when ageing has prevented an individual from doing the activities that matter to them. OT’s will identify why you’re having difficulties with daily tasks, such as washing and dressing, toileting, getting out of bed and preparing meals. All of the daily tasks that give you independence.
An OT will then problem solve, and work out the best way to help regain your ability to carry out these important tasks independently. This could be through changing or adapting the environment, practicing using new equipment and helping you work out practical solutions using different techniques. OT’s can also act as social prescribers, linking individuals to a wide range of community services and groups, helping to improve physical and mental wellbeing.
