What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is the sister of Yoga, a traditional system of medicine that originated in India over 3,000 years ago. Derived from the Sanskrit words "Ayu" (life) and "Veda" (science or knowledge), Ayurveda literally means "the science of life." It is a holistic approach to health and wellness that emphasises the balance between mind, body, and spirit to maintain health and prevent disease.

Ayurveda Philosophy focuses on prevention over cure and holistic healing. Ayurveda places a strong emphasis on preventing disease by maintaining balance in the body through diet, lifestyle, and mindfulness practices. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, Ayurveda looks at the whole person—physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects.

Ayurveda is practised worldwide as a form of alternative medicine, often used alongside conventional medical treatments. Its holistic and natural approach to wellness appeals to those seeking a more personalised and preventive form of healthcare.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions and their impact on overall health. It is based on the principle that the body has an innate ability to heal itself when the structure and function of the musculoskeletal system are balanced.

There are four key principles of osteopathy

🦴The body is a unit: Osteopaths view the body as an interconnected system where all parts are interdependent. Problems in one area can affect other parts.

🦴Structure and function are interrelated: The alignment and function of the musculoskeletal system (bones, muscles, and joints) have a direct impact on the body’s health and organ systems.

🦴The body is its own medicine chest: Osteopathy aims to support the body’s natural healing mechanisms by ensuring that the musculoskeletal system is functioning optimally.

🦴The rule of the artery is supreme: the idea that proper blood flow is essential to maintaining health and promoting the body's natural healing processes.

Osteopathic treatment primarily involves manual therapies such as massage and stretching of muscles and connective tissue, gentle movements of joints to improve their range of motion. Osteopaths also offer advice on exercise, diet, and lifestyle changes to improve health and prevent further injury.

In the UK, osteopaths are recognised as allied healthcare professionals.

What is Yoga?

Most people have heard of Yoga, but what really is it? Yoga is a holistic practice that combines physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and ethical principles to promote overall health, mental clarity, and spiritual growth. Originating in India over 5,000 years ago, Yoga is deeply rooted in Indian philosophy. It is designed to unite the body, mind, and spirit, leading to self-awareness, inner peace, and well-being.

Benefits of Yoga:

🧘🏻‍♀️Physical Benefits: Improves flexibility, strength, and balance; enhances respiratory function; promotes better posture; and helps manage conditions like back pain, arthritis, and high blood pressure.

🧘🏻‍♀️Mental and Emotional Benefits: Reduces stress and anxiety, improves focus and concentration, fosters emotional resilience, and promotes mental clarity.

🧘🏻‍♀️Spiritual Benefits: Cultivates self-awareness, deepens the connection between mind, body, and spirit, and encourages a sense of peace and harmony with the universe.

In modern times, yoga has become a popular practice worldwide for fitness, stress relief, and spiritual development. However, its roots remain deeply intertwined with its ancient philosophy, aiming to guide practitioners toward a life of balance, harmony, and self-realisation.

Bath Clinic to close from 25th May.
Due to a few different reasons, we have taken the decision to close our clinic in Bath. It's been an amazing, scary, exciting and wild little adventure, but it's time to bring it to a close and there are a couple of reasons:

1. I'm pregnant!
We are so so excited and want to make sure I'm in the best physical and mental health through my pregnancy

2. We are moving out of Bath
You may have seen on our stories that I've had some flat issues over the last couple of months that have still not resolved. We decided to move, but unfortunately, that means that Bath rents are just no longer affordable for us. But we've found a lovely place in Frome!

3. Osteopathy
In a couple of months time I finally (after 5 long years) qualify as an osteopath and have been given an amazing opportunity to join

4. It's been HARD
running a clinic has meant wearing various different hats. What I really want to do now is just be a clinician and focus on my skills and development.

I'm still here until the 25th May so if you'd like to book in before then, I'd love to see you.

Thanks everyone for your ongoing love and support ❤️

Wildflower Yoga Therapy

Chelsea is a 200hr qualified Healthcare Yoga Teacher. She undertook her training in Dharamsala which is in the beautiful Himalayan mountains of India.

Unlike other courses, her training focused on different ailments and how the tools of yoga can be used as a complimentary therapy to help people re-balance, heal and grow.

"I do not have the classic body shape of the 'Instagram Yoga Practitioners', my body is naturally quite inflexible and through my own practice, I have added blocks, straps and bolsters to help my body achieve certain postures. I believe this has provided me with some invaluable tools and understanding to help people in their journey with yoga."

After practising yoga for more than 5 years, and it helping with her own chronic illnesses, Chelsea began to think about how sedentary lifestyles can lead to poor health and how those who were in hospital and bed bound, or with limited access to physical activity, could find themselves on a long road to recovery. This inspired her to try and share the benefits she had found in yoga, to help people on their journey.
