Today saw the confirmation that all school children in England will receive life saving first aid and CPR training from 2020. This exciting announcement comes after many years of hard work and campaigning by the British Heart Foundation to improve out of hospital cardiac arrest survival rates.
Currently only 1 in 10 people survive a cardiac arrest in the UK, whereas in Norway, where all children learn CPR as part of the curriculum, the survival rate is 1 in 4.
Such a simple change to the English curriculum could genuinely save thousands of lives every year and I am proud to say that as part of my work with Tillie Harris Ltd, we have helped the British Heart Foundation ensure that 83% of all secondary schools in the UK already have life saving CPR training kits and the opportunity to use a PSHE Association Accredited Teaching Plan.
