“They gave me back my dreams, my life and quite honestly...me.” -

Words like these are why we do what we do.

At BCPS, supporting our patients throughout their rehabilitation journey is at the heart of everything we do. Hearing how their lives have changed after completing our programme means the world to us.

Every graduate has a story. Read their stories in their own words on our website:

It’s ! At BCPS, we know that being neurodivergent can shape the way you experience chronic pain and healthcare.

That’s why hearing from patients, like Libby, matters so much to us. Real voices drive real change, and we’re committed to making our care more inclusive, accessible, and supportive for every individual we serve.

Here is a snapshot of a recent gym session with one of our supported adult groups! As part of the programme our groups attend the gym and experiment with new ways to move their bodies - like rope battle!

It is essential to be confident that treatment gains will ‘generalise’ to home, outside of the hospital setting. This is why all 16yrs+ patients have access to a public gym in the city centre and where appropriate are supported to become independent public gym users.

Experimenting with new things is an important part of the patient journey here at BCPS.

Chronic pain can affect day‑to‑day living, and activities such as cooking can become challenging. At BCPS, part of our programme focuses on experimenting with ways to re‑engage in meaningful life activities and cooking is often a key priority for the people we support.
During our recent Supported Adults group, we were able to use the Brownsword Kitchen, where patients worked together as a team to create a full three‑course meal: stuffed peppers, veggie lasagna, and delicious chocolate brownies. Throughout the session, they asked for help when needed and took breaks from standing whenever necessary.

This work forms part of our Activity Strand, led by our specialist Occupational Therapists, Kim and Emma.

Chronic pain affects millions of people across the UK - and the science is clear that rehabilitation and interdisciplinary care can help people live well with pain. As the UK’s national specialist centre for chronic pain rehabilitation, research is the corner stone of the work that we do and informs our treatment approach. This we’re proud to stand with the evidence that makes that possible.

During our last team training day, we had the privilege of Jim Lucas, an expert in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, guiding us to work together on our therapeutic skills as a team. We practised formulating cases and reflected on our own responses through an ACT- lens and we role-played advanced ACT-based interventions to shape psychological flexibility in real time.

These days are not only an opportunity to learn more about ACT and develop our skills but also a chance to reconnect as a team and enjoy some fun, shared lunch and even squeeze in a cheeky game of jazzminton.

Finally, here is a quote from the day that we really connected with as a team and wanted to share: "When the therapist sits in love and awareness, the room changes. And that is where healing begins.” (Robyn Walser, 2019)

Thanks to Jim Lucas for creating a thoughtful and clinically meaningful day for us. We look forward to bringing what we have learnt into our work moving forward.

We appreciate all the feedback we receive from patients and their families at the end of treatment.

Some of the common themes throughout our feedback highlight how patients feel they are treated with kindness, dignity and respect.

We are incredibly proud of our team for creating a space where people feel safe, supported and respected.

It is nutrition and hydration week! At Bath Centre for Pain Services, we understand that living with persistent pain can make it harder to eat well and stay hydrated, but we are also aware of how important these are for feeling your best. Within our programmes, we incorporate a dedicated health and wellbeing strand, including focused sessions on nutrition and hydration to explore:
How pain can affect your appetite and hydration
Why good nutrition and hydration matter for your body and your mood
Simple, achievable changes you can make to support your health
Building confidence to look after yourself in ways that feel manageable

Small steps can make a big difference, and we’re here to support you along the way. 🌿💙
