Locala Health & Wellbeing Providing NHS community services across Kirklees, Calderdale, Bradford, and Greater Manchester.

Locala is a not-for-profit social enterprise that is proud to provide a variety of NHS community healthcare services to people in Kirklees, Calderdale and Bradford. Those services care for, and support people, from before birth to end of life, ranging from health visitors to physiotherapy, and sexual health to district nursing, as well as dental care, school nurses, and foot care. We’re a not-for-profit social enterprise, so we are in the great position of having the flexibility to tailor our services to meet the needs of our communities - and any financial surplus is re-invested straight back into supporting patient care. We’re celebrating a fantastic achievement 🎉

Our Tissue Viability Service has secured a £12,000 innovation award to support a new project focused on improving understanding of wound care for Asian women with lower limb conditions in the Kirklees community.

The project will explore potential disparities in diagnosis, treatment, healing outcomes and patient experience, helping to shape more equitable and effective care.

A huge congratulations to the team for leading this important and impactful work - we are so proud and can't wait to see how this work progresses! 👏

Feedback Friday 🌟

Today we’d like to shout out Naomi from Locala's Bladder and Bowel Health Service, who received this wonderful feedback:

💬 “Naomi was fantastic at listening to my needs and worries. We worked in collaboration to find a solution that worked best for me and I have been problem-free for months after daily/weekly struggles with bowel and bladder issues. Absolutely fantastic nurse who was kind, understanding and had a great sense of humour. Thank you.”

A huge thank you to everyone working across our Bladder and Bowel Care Service. Feedback like this highlights the amazing support, dedication and care you provide to patients every day. 💙

Some families face cultural, practical, or information barriers that make vaccination harder to access. At Locala, we’re helping change that by bringing our clinical van directly into local communities.

We visit places like supermarket car parks and school events, offer options such as non-porcine flu vaccines and vegetarian MMR, and support parents with clear information and help with consent forms. We also send SMS invites so families can drop in at a time that works for them.

This approach is making a real difference. Hundreds of vaccines have been delivered through our van, uptake among 2–3-year-olds is improving, and families appreciate the convenience, privacy, and trust.

For us, it’s about more than vaccines – it’s about fairness, dignity, and working together to make healthcare accessible for everyone.

Some of Locala's Child Development Practitioners recently attended the LS2Y Community Winter Wonderland event at Birkby Junior School.

Laura and Nicola said it was a lovely event and a perfect opportunity to engage with lots of families and talk about weaning, dental health, child development, and self-soothing behaviours.

They also spoke to families who shared very positive feedback about our 0–19 app.

Standing Ovation Award Winner: Dawn! 🌟

We’re thrilled to celebrate Dawn, who went above and beyond to support the opening of our vaccination clinics.

Dawn worked on three of her days off to ensure all the necessary approvals were in place for the clinics. This was especially important because she had a busy clinic with 55 patients on her first day back - and thanks to her dedication, our clinical team could focus on patient care without any extra stress.

Her dedication made a huge difference and we are so grateful. 🙌

Thank you Dawn - you absolutely deserve this recognition! 👏

Despite the freezing temperatures, our Tissue Viability nursing team were out at Dewsbury Market recently, chatting with the public about skin health and how to prevent pressure ulcers.

A huge thank you to our team for braving the cold and sharing their expertise with the community! 👏💙

Feedback Friday Post ⭐

We absolutely love this feedback from a 14-year-old boy about his time with Eleanor, a Calderdale School Nurse.

He rated her excellent, and his words really say it all.

“She’s interactive and cheerful.
Easy to talk to.
Makes me feel safe.”

It’s brilliant to see the positive impact our School Nurses have every single day.

Well done, Eleanor - and a big thank you to all of our nurses working across the service. 👏💜

A big shout-out to Locala's Head of Estates, Charlie, and Medical Director, Joy, who are taking on a sponsored cycle today to raise funds for the Children’s Development Centre at Dewsbury Hospital 🚴‍♂️💙

Every pound raised will help create a fun, safe, and engaging garden for the children who use their services.

Good luck - we’re all cheering you on! 🌟👏
