HOWEVER THE TAKETEN TEAM HAVE UNDERTAKEN A VARITY OF RELEVENT COURSES IN ORDER TO ENSURE WE CAN OFFER THE BEST SUPPORT TO OUR PEOPLE*
Hi my name is Stevie Oliver I am the founder of Take Ten. I decided to set up this support group as there is just not enough help and support out there due to cuts in the NHS. I have Mental Health Illness and have for as long as I can remember so I know first hand what a struggle life can be both for those with the illness and those around them. I am lucky in that I have had fantastic support around me especially the last two years when my life was totally ripped apart, without my wonderful children, my super family, amazing friends and fabulous CPN I would not be here! I wanted to be able to turn my negative experiences into something positive and so I started a group on Facebook called βMy Story isnβt Over yet;β which as helped lots of people from all over the world, this led me to start something closer to home where I could be a little more hands on and speak to people face to face so I started working on Take Ten!
Take Ten Mental Health & Su***de peer support group was launched on 16th May at Dewsbury Town Hall and runs here every Wednesday 10am-2.30pm, run completely by volunteers who all have had personal experience with Mental Health & or Su***de.
The aim of the group is to offer support and advice to individuals, families or friends of adults or children with Mental Health Illness or Su***de and to raise awareness of Mental Health and Su***de. Mental Health is the largest growing illness within the UK and can affect anyone at any point in their life, unfortunately Mental Health Illness carries a massive stigma as people do not always understand Mental Health or how to support individuals, families, friends or work colleagues.
Take Ten offers a range of talks delivered by both professionals and members of the group, workshops to raise awareness on issues such as; self harm, anxiety, depression, abuse and so on as well as lessons on Mindfulness, coping strategies and arts & crafts that can be used to help occupy the mind. There will also be a small range of holistic therapies available, All we ask is for a donation which will be used to fund the group.
The group is open to those over the age of 16, however we ask that unders 18βs attend with a parent, carer or guardian and will need consent to be part of it due to child protection this is due to the nature of the group and the discussions that may take place.
We also launched a teenage section to TakeTen we meet every Friday 4pm-7pm at Crow Nest Park Adventure playground where we offer peer support and a place to learn about mental health & su***de or just chill out!
At times individuals may find the talks or activities difficult, we ask that should this be the case that you leave the room but not the building, this to ensure your safety and well being.
All we ask is that you as a member of Take Ten:
*respect each other
* understand that anything discussed within the group remains confidential
* you tell us if you are unhappy and tell others if you are happy
* treat others how you wish to be treated
