If I step back and reflect on the many conversations I have had with athletes across different sports, the most common thing we have achieved, by a variety of means, is an acceptance that in any journey, things will not always go as you might hope. There will be disappointments and even moments you feel you have gone backwards, but that is in fact all part of moving forwards. If you can embrace that, really believe it and learn from all of your experiences, it can remove fears and enable even greater growth.

Women in your 40s/50s! Do you need some support to make exercise a part of your regular routine?

❓Know you ‘should’ be doing it and that it will be good for you, but that doesn’t help!
🤯 Already feel overwhelmed with ‘No time’ and too many other commitments?

Perimenopause can leave us feeling fatigued, overwhelmed, struggling with sleep, low in confidence, the list goes on!!!

People often think my work as a Sport & Exercise Psychologist is only about ‘high performance’ or ‘elite’ sport, but actually this isn’t the case 😮

Something I am really passionate about is helping women to start (and continue!) participating in sport and exercise at 40+.

Our bodies experience a lot of changes at this time, and we often need to take a fresh approach to our training. What has worked previously, or what we have prevously thought about exercise, may need adjustment. There can also be lots of emotions to deal with 🤯💕

You don’t have to ‘soldier on’ alone! In online sessions we can discuss where you are right now, what is holding you back, and create an achievable action plan to move forwards. I have ‘lunch hour’ slots currently available!

Back in the office! Refreshed and ready to go! With my ‘after school’ capacity for youth athlete (age 14+) sessions having been full for a while, I have already had some enquiries about daytime sessions during the holidays! ☀️🧠 If you have a son or daughter (aged 14 or over) that could benefit with some help on the ‘mental side’ of their sport, I probably have daytime space (online sessions) for just one or two more youth athletes over the summer. It is getting HOT!! ☀️😎🥵

Just a quick reminder to take extra precautions with your training in the heat! It can be tempting to forge ahead regardless, but do remember that adjusting your training plans to keep yourself safe will be more beneficial in the long run than risking heatstroke!

A few tips: (Although I am sure you are all super sensible and know them anyway!)

⏰ Try to train at cooler times of the day - set those alarms early or wait until the evening

🤔 Adapt your planned training session if necessary, eg. reducing reps or intensity

🧢 Wear appropriate cool clothing and suncream

💦Stay hydrated! Ensure you have water and take drink breaks

⛔️Don’t be afraid to skip a session or cut it short if you think it is unsafe.
