Day Centre started the day with a nine letter word square. Some fab words made and only one person got the nine letter word. Well done Dot! We passed the morning listening and singing along to songs containing the word sun and made a new matching cards game. After our lovely lunch we settled down for a game of Qwirkle or Cluedo cards.

The bus trip took a drive through Shebbear and Halwill to enjoy a somewhat chilly picnic on Prewley Moor. Back on the bus for a drive through Okehampton up to Rowtor car park to see the sheep, lambs and the beautiful gorse and bluebells. Stunning! Coming home we drove through Hatherleigh, Highampton and Sheepwash. Lots of talk of past experiences, knowledge of location and happy times spent on the moors. Once back home we practiced our aim throwing the ball and beanbags through hoops, and made some fantastic words with no less than 9 letters and chose a book in a quiet 🤫 corner.

Today at our day centre, we proudly celebrated Deaf Awareness Week 💙

We spent time learning how to sign our names and had a thoughtful discussion about what it might be like to experience the world in silence. We also explored the different tools and aids that can help support communication.

Using mood cards, we expressed our feelings and had fun making different facial expressions together 😊

After enjoying a delicious lunch, we relaxed with some gentle chair Pilates followed by peaceful arts and crafts.

In house today George got everyone moving with football, hoop-la and some strengthening and balancing exercises. Fabulous fun.

A very chilled day in the day centre today working on a collaborative project of a woodland tree stump surrounded by fungi. We watched a short documentary on fungi and their properties. Did you know there are approximately 144,000 known species of fungi which includes yeast, mildew, mold and mushrooms. We made 80 words from 'toadstools and mushrooms' and then spent the afternoon, trimming, touching up and putting together our collage. We all agree it looks fabulous. In house today we also had a visit from Millie the therapy dog. She always makes us smile. We also had a game of draughts and a bit of fishing 🎣

A fab day in day centre recalling experiences from May Day/Fair which led to lots of dancing with ribbons, bells and sticks to some lively folk music. Once we had calmed down we used the letters of Maypole to find towns, countries and flowers. We learned how bluebells in your garden were once a death sentence as they were considered only grown by witches! We untangled anagrams to make styles of dancing, played festival and flower bingo, had a visit from Millie the therapy dog participated in a quiz incorporating the word feet or foot and discussed this day in history.
