Meningitis is spread by prolonged close contact with another person carrying the disease. However it's a good idea to familiarise yourself with the symptoms https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/meningitis-signs-and-symptoms-poster/meningitis-dont-ignore-the-signs-and-symptoms

There is no local concern from public health for the northwest area at the moment so we have not been asked to provide extra vaccinations outside the normal schedule. We can however vaccinate people under 25 who have missed their Meningitis ACWY combined vaccination under the childhood vaccination program. We are only giving Meningitis B vaccination to babies who are due now under the childhood vaccination program. We have no capacity to offer this to anyone else at this moment.

If you want to check your child's vaccination status, you can check their Red Book, or if they are over 16 they can check the immunisation section of their NHS app.

We’d like to set additional cookies to understand how you use GOV.UK, remember your settings and improve government services.

Medicines Waste campaign

We need your help to reduce medicines waste in our area. We are asking patients who order repeat prescriptions to:

Only order what you need:
Check what medicines you have at home before you order, and only request the medicines you need this time. You will still be able to order others again in future.

Check your prescription bag straight away:
Check that you only have what you need before you leave the pharmacy, and that there’s nothing extra in there.

Let us know if your medicines are no longer right for you:
Talk to your pharmacy team or attend/request medication reviews to make sure medicines are optimised for you.

Take your medicines into hospital:
Keep a current list of your medicines on your NHS App, and take all your medicines in with you.

Dispose of medicines safely:
Return any unused or out of date medicines or inhalers to your pharmacy for safe disposal

Visit: www.cheshireandmerseyside.nhs.uk/medicines-waste to find out more.
Thank you for helping us reduce medicines waste

An estimated 6.2 million medicine items are wasted unnecessarily in Cheshire and Merseyside each year. We need your help to reduce this.

This is Hanc. He’s looking out for every man (especially those aged 40+) across Cheshire and Merseyside, to make sure you are all checking yourselves for head and neck cancer symptoms.

Hanc’s simple check can be done in 60 seconds and 3 easy steps:

Touch - Feel around for any lumps on your neck, lips, or in your mouth.
Open Wide - Look in your mouth and on your tongue for any ulcers or red / red and white patches.
Speak - Listen out for any hoarseness in your voice.

Head and neck cancer kills 4000 people each year in the UK. By spotting signs early and getting checked out at your GP Practice, you can boost your chances of tackling it quickly.

Checking yourself just once a month can help give you and your loved ones peace of mind.
