This is Hanc. He’s looking out for every man (especially those aged 40+) across Cheshire and Merseyside, to make sure you are all checking yourselves for head and neck cancer symptoms.

Hanc’s simple check can be done in 60 seconds and 3 easy steps:

Touch - Feel around for any lumps on your neck, lips, or in your mouth.
Open Wide - Look in your mouth and on your tongue for any ulcers or red / red and white patches.
Speak - Listen out for any hoarseness in your voice.

Head and neck cancer kills 4000 people each year in the UK. By spotting signs early and getting checked out at your GP Practice, you can boost your chances of tackling it quickly.

Checking yourself just once a month can help give you and your loved ones peace of mind.

Eastham Walk-in Centre will remain temporarily closed for the time being. Staff have been diverted to the Urgent Treatment Centre at Arrowe Park Hospital to help relieve pressure from A&E. This situation is being closely monitored and reviewed on a weekly basis.
Other services at Eastham Clinic are running as normal.

Throughout December and January, the Living Well team will continue to offer flu and COVID-19 vaccinations as well as all routine vaccinations to eligible adults and children, health checks and wellbeing conversations. See below for their timetable and locations over the next few weeks.

15/12/2025

From Monday 15 December 2025 until Sunday 11 January 2026, staff from Eastham Walk-in Centre will be relocated to the Urgent Treatment Centre at Arrowe Park Hospital and the Victoria Central Walk-in Centre.

As a result, walk-in services will not be available at Eastham Clinic during this period.

This temporary change will help:

Safely staff higher-acuity sites during winter pressures
Increase staff availability for front-door streaming at Arrowe Park Hospital Emergency Department
Strengthen the provision of dressings appointments at Victoria Central Walk-in Centre
Improve 4-hour response times and patient experience at remaining sites
Eastham Clinic remains open and will continue to provide a range of NHS services, including community nursing, continence services, speech and language therapy, and more.

Alternative Walk-in Centres are available at:

Victoria Central Walk-in Centre, Mill Lane, Wallasey CH44 5UF
Urgent Treatment Centre, Arrowe Park Hospital, Arrowe Park Road, Upton CH49 5PE
Minor Injury & Illness Service (Delivered by Miriam Primary Care Group), Miriam Medical Centre, Birkenhead Medical Building, Street, Birkenhead CH41 8D
