Our Story

Observatory the Opticians Beccles were named Best Optician in the UK at the national Optician Awards in 2014/15. We were also a finalist for Best Small Shops in the UK in 2015, a finalist for Customer Care at the EADT Business Awards in 2016 and won the EADT Business Award for Community Involvement in 2017. We offer state of the art equipment, including an Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT), great lenses and a large selection of frames and sunglasses to suit everyone’s taste and budget.

We moved into the old NatWest Bank at 1 Smallgate in early January 2020. This enormous space has allowed us to have four dispensing areas, new brands and lots more frames on display. We are also accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs with automatic double doors and lots of room to manoeuvre around the practice.

Optometrist Rene is delightful and has been at Observatory since 2007. Store Manager Jacqui has also been here since 2007. Jacqui offers an extremely high level of care and service, taking a keen interest in all of our patients. Assistant Store Manager Julia started at Observatory in 2008 and is able to offer her expert opinion on what frames and lenses will best suit you. You will also get a warm welcome from Jo, Molly, Emily and Mornie when you come to see us. Our audiologist Kerry is able to offer specialist advice on hearing aids, as well as additional services such as ear wax removal and hearing protection. She can help with a range of conditions and complaints, including tinnitus.
