Sauna at Cyder Farm

One of the things that makes Sauna Hus special is the setting.

Our wood-fired sauna sits beside the water at The Cyder Farm in the Suffolk countryside, just outside Bungay.

Cyder Farm is a peaceful lakeside campsite with a beautiful lake stocked with carp for campers who enjoy fishing. It’s a relaxed spot where people come to unwind, spend time outdoors and slow down for a few days.

Alongside the campsite there’s also a hot tub, and this year two new self-contained cabins are being added for those who want a comfortable place to stay beside the water. 🌿

The sauna fits naturally into that setting.

You step out of the sauna and feel the fresh air across the fields. The water sits quietly beside you, and the pace of the day seems to soften for a while.

This kind of setting is exactly how sauna is often experienced across Scandinavia — close to nature, with space to cool down and relax between sauna rounds.

Heat inside the sauna. 🔥
Fresh air outside. 🌬️
Time to breathe.

At Sauna Hus () we’re lucky to share this beautiful spot with Cyder Farm, creating a place where people can unwind, warm up and enjoy the rhythm of sauna beside the water. 💧

Today’s the Day

Today Martin from heads off to take part in the legendary Fjällräven Polar.

It’s an Arctic expedition organised by where participants travel hundreds of kilometres across the frozen wilderness of northern Scandinavia by dog sled.

No engines. Just sled dogs, snow, and the vast Arctic landscape.

For many outdoor enthusiasts it’s one of the most iconic winter adventures in the world.

For Martin, this trip has been a long time coming.

He first applied eight years ago, and after years of trying, the opportunity has finally arrived.

Over the next few days he’ll be travelling deep into the Arctic, learning to drive a dog sled team, camping in the snow, and experiencing life far above the Arctic Circle. ❄️🐕

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure and something he’s been dreaming about for a long time.

While he’s away, the sauna will still be running as usual beside the water at Cyder Farm ().

We’ll also be sharing a few updates from the Arctic along the way.

Good luck Martin — and enjoy every minute of it. 🔥

How Long Do You Sauna For?

One of the most common questions people ask before their first sauna session is simple:

How long should I stay in?

There isn’t a single rule. Sauna is usually enjoyed in short rounds rather than one long session.

A typical rhythm looks like this:

• 10–15 minutes in the sauna 🔥
• 5–10 minutes cooling down outside 🌬️
• Repeat the cycle 2–3 times

The key is simple — listen to your body.

When the heat feels like enough, step outside, cool down and take a moment to relax before going back in.

Sauna isn’t about endurance or pushing yourself. It’s about finding a natural rhythm of heat, fresh air and rest.

At Sauna Hus () we encourage guests to take their time between rounds and enjoy the lakeside setting beside the water at The Cyder Farm. 💧🌿
Heat. Cool. Relax. Repeat.

Why Sauna Makes You Feel Reset

There’s a reason people have used sauna for hundreds of years.

Step into the heat and something simple happens. Your breathing slows. Your muscles relax. The noise of the day fades away. 🔥

It’s one of the few places where you are forced to stop for a moment.

Regular sauna use is often linked with better sleep, reduced stress and a deep sense of calm after a session. Many people describe it as a full body reset.

That feeling of walking out afterwards, cooling down in the fresh air and feeling lighter than when you went in. Hard to explain until you try it. 🌬️

Sauna isn’t about rushing. It’s about taking a little time for yourself.

At Sauna Hus () we keep things traditional. A wood-fired stove, proper sauna stones and a calm lakeside setting beside the water at Cyder Farm (). 💧🌿

Heat. Steam. Reset.

Do You Talk in a Sauna?

Some people imagine a sauna as a silent, meditative space.

Others picture friends chatting and laughing in the heat.

The truth is, both happen.

Interestingly, some Nordic countries are known for people being fairly reserved in everyday life. But the sauna has long been a place where that changes.

In Finland especially, sauna is where conversations happen. Friends catch up, families talk, and sometimes complete strangers end up sharing stories while sitting in the warmth. 🔥

It’s one of the reasons sauna has always been an important part of social life.

Of course, some sessions are quiet and reflective too.

The best approach is simple: read the room.

At Sauna Hus () we welcome both styles. Whether you prefer a quiet moment in the heat or a relaxed chat between sauna rounds, the sauna is a place to slow down and unwind.

Our wood-fired lakeside sauna sits beside the water at Cyder Farm (), creating the perfect place to relax, talk and enjoy the experience. 💧🌿

Heat. Steam. Good company.

What Is Löyly?

If you spend time around traditional sauna, you’ll eventually hear the word löyly.

It’s a Finnish word used to describe the steam that rises when water is poured onto the hot sauna stones.

But it actually means more than just steam.

Löyly is the moment the sauna truly comes alive. When water touches the stones, steam rises and spreads gently through the room, wrapping the warmth around your body. 🔥💧

In Finland, people often say that a sauna without good löyly isn’t really a sauna at all.

It’s part of the rhythm of the experience.

Heat. Steam. Breathe. Relax.

At Sauna Hus () we use a traditional wood-fired stove and proper sauna stones to create that authentic löyly beside the water at Cyder Farm (). 🌿

It’s a simple ritual, but it’s what turns heat into something far more calming.

Sauna & Cold Cycle

One of the most powerful parts of sauna culture is the rhythm between heat and cooling down.

First, you sit in the sauna and let the warmth slowly build. Your muscles relax and your breathing slows. 🔥

Then you step outside.

Fresh air. Cool water. A quiet moment to breathe. 🌬️💧

After a few minutes you return to the sauna and repeat the cycle again.

This simple rhythm of heat → cool → rest is what many people find so calming. Each round leaves you feeling lighter, clearer and deeply relaxed.

You don’t need to jump into freezing water either. Even standing outside in cool air between sauna rounds can create the same effect.

If you do take a cold dip, take time to acclimatise afterwards. Don’t rush straight back into the sauna. Standing outside in the fresh air while your body slowly warms again is often the most invigorating part of the whole experience. 🌿

At Sauna Hus () guests enjoy this natural cycle at our wood-fired lakeside sauna beside the water at Cyder Farm ().

Heat. Cool. Breathe. Repeat.

Sauna & Circulation

One of the fascinating things that happens in a sauna is how your body responds to heat and cooling down.

When you sit in the sauna, the heat causes your blood vessels to expand. This is known as vasodilation. 🔥

As the vessels widen, blood flows more easily through the body, helping deliver oxygen and nutrients to muscles and tissues.

When you step outside to cool down, the opposite happens. Your blood vessels narrow again, a process called vasoconstriction. 🌬️

This natural cycle of expanding and contracting blood vessels helps keep the circulatory system active and responsive.

Many people describe it as a gentle “workout” for the cardiovascular system, supporting healthy circulation and helping the body regulate temperature more effectively.

It’s also one of the reasons sauna sessions often leave people feeling deeply relaxed, warm and refreshed.

At Sauna Hus (), guests can enjoy the natural rhythm of heat, fresh air and rest at our wood-fired lakeside sauna beside the water at Cyder Farm (). 💧

Heat. Cool. Breathe. Repeat.

What Do You Wear in a Sauna?

One of the most common questions people ask before their first sauna session is simple.

What do you actually wear in a sauna?

In many Nordic countries, traditional saunas are often enjoyed without clothing. It’s simply part of the culture. But customs vary depending on the setting and location.

At Sauna Hus () we keep things relaxed and comfortable.

Most guests choose to wear swimwear, while others prefer to wrap themselves in a towel. 🧖

If you’d like to experience sauna more like it’s traditionally enjoyed in Scandinavia, you can also join one of our Nordic Sauna Events, where sessions are run in a more traditional clothing-free format for those who are comfortable with it.

For most people though, sauna is simply about relaxing in the heat and enjoying the experience.

Bring a towel, take your time, and enjoy the rhythm of heat and fresh air. 🌿

Our wood-fired lakeside sauna sits beside the water at Cyder Farm (), creating the perfect place to slow down and unwind. 💧
