❓What is sports therapy?

People always ask me what sports therapy is, so I thought I’d show you🌀

Most pains and aches are not because of damage or degeneration! ⁉️

Most pains are due to bio mechanical faults and dysfunctions, imbalances and weaknesses- all of which can be altered through exercise rehabilitation ⚖️

By assessing and analysing the functional and anatomical movements of a person, you can identify where their weaknesses/ imbalances are and highlight what and where adjustment needs to be directed. 💪🏽

More often than not, by retraining movement, you can retrain the trigger that is causing you pain or discomfort. 🏃‍♂️

So if you’ve been avoiding a certain exercise, or exercise altogether because of a niggling pain… you’d better find a new excuse because a course of sports therapy treatment is highly likely to get you pain free and moving in the shortest and safest time possible! 🏋️‍♀️

Have a look at yourself standing, or moving in a mirror or by recording yourself. 🪞

Absolute symmetry is unlikely, but have a look at those big differences and think about how it may be affecting your movement and how it may relate to a pain or discomfort you experience…..

Send me a message to find out how simple it can be to fix these issues!

Prevention is always easier than a cure.

HAPPY SATURDAY

It’s time to get creative!!

Every back in different ( so is every body ) so every body and back deserves its own care.

Whether you experience back pain or not, take a few minutes to stand and breathe as you move through the easy motions of your spine.

Observe & listen to each movement, this can hell you to understand what your body is trying to tell you. So take a few minutes to bend and twist your spine, and see what feedback it gives you!

Leave me a comment below if you felt or heard anything peculiar, or message me to get booked in so I can help you to understand your body and what signs it may be trying to give you!

🧘🏻‍♀️Rest Vs Load🏋🏽‍♀️

Its difficult to know what to do when you feel pain ❌ after a session or when you wake up the next morning, some will say rest it and some will say to work through it🤷🏻‍♀️

How do i decide which one to do?

If there is overt serious tissue damage, suspected trauma, or a weakened tissue that needs protection, we have to respect that. So watch out for inflammation, discoloration & easily aggravated pain... But if there are no obvious signs, then loading is probably a good idea..

Rest is ok, if you have an acute injury it is ok to take a few days off. Studies show that you can take 2-3 weeks off without loss of strength of muscle mass🍗🍗. So if something hurts, its okay to skip that workout and do something else. Try work another area or make changes to your routine,🧘🏻‍♀️🚴🏾‍♂️

This is where modifications come in, and relative rest is developed. Finding ways to tolerably load an area that hurts can make it start to feel better. It's a progressive exposure to stress that gradually helps the brain calm down as it begins to process those inputs differently.

With every rep, you are showing your brain that this movement can be done without pain and it will gradually trust your judgement and allow more movement without the pain signals🧠

Take some time if you need it, but even with passive range of motion exercises you can start to override the protective mechanism that is pain and allow your rehabilitation to begin ASAP

By observing your body and looking out for postural imbalances, going through the functional movements of the body and isolating soft tissue and nerves to test for any signs or symptoms. Sports therapy is a non invasive and safe way of looking at the body from a biomechanical point of view, and helping you to take the steps to recovery of the body as a whole and prevent the likelihood of future injury or reinjury.

Your consultation will consist of the therapist looking at your body as a whole and then carrying out a set of standardised tests which involve taking the joints through their normal range of motion. There are also a number of functional tests, like balance and co-ordination, that enable us to understand more as to why you are moving the way you do and how we can help.

Humans are supposed to move, and we weren’t designed to sit on chairs or bend our neck down to see the screen on our phones for hours on end. Depending on your lifestyle now and growing up, you probably suffer from one or more of the common issues we see in physical therapy.
-Rounded Shoulders
-Achy lower back
-Stiff mid back
-’Tight’ hips
-Recurrent crooked neck
-Cervicogenic headaches
-Pins and needles
-Sciatic Pain
And many many more

Factors include job physical requirements, daily habits, sleeping positions, movement patterns, posture, sitting habits, and of course age, weight, general health, physical activity levels etc.

By making small and gradual changes to some or all of these factors, you can make a significant difference to your physical health, overall wellbeing, and happiness.

All of the above common issues that we face can be overcome with sports therapy, we can take you from where you are now to your target in the safest and shortest time possible. Installing habits and lifestyle changes that will keep you fit and active into your 90s! (and above)
