The sun has been making an appearance lately made and it finally feels like summer might be on its way…

So, here’s a reminder of what to dress your little one in at night on warmer summer nights.

Please remember this is just a guide and the best way to check whether your baby is too hot is to touch their chest or the back of their neck (their hands and feet will naturally feel cooler) and if they feel hot or clammy remove a layer.

According to our friends at the optimum room temperature for a baby is 16-20 degrees C.

Hit SAVE on this one so you can refer back to it on hotter days this summer.

⛑️ F I R S T A I D ⛑️

First aid is the immediate treatment given to a person BEFORE medical help arrives 🚑

The actions you take whilst waiting for an ambulance could make all the difference.

First aid can feel scary to learn, especially when it’s our own babies or children we’re talking about. But it is far, far scarier if something happens and you don’t know what to do!

Would you know how to help your child if they choked, were knocked unconscious, burned themselves or had a seizure?

In our classes we’ll teach you all this and loads more but we’ll do it in a way that isn’t scary. We are parents too so we’ll give you practical skills and information without any horror stories. We’ll make sure you have fun too! (Yes you can have fun whilst learning first aid!!).

At Daisy first aid we passionately believe that anyone who looks after babies and children should do a basic first aid class.

We always hope you won’t need to use any of the skills we’ll teach you but it’s better to know it and not need it than need it and not know it.

Head to the link in my bio to find class dates I have scheduled or get in touch - kate@daisyfirstaid.com - to discuss a private home class or get more information.

Around 1 in 100 people in the UK have coeliac disease but it can be tricky to diagnose, particularly in children.

The symptoms can vary widely and may not be specific to the condition. However, there are several signs that may indicate a child has coeliac disease and we’re talking all about them on this week’s blog.

If you suspect your child may have coeliac disease, it is important to talk to your GP. They can perform tests to confirm the diagnosis and provide guidance on how to manage the condition. The only treatment for coeliac disease is a lifelong gluten-free diet, so it is important to get a proper diagnosis as early as possible.

Head to the link below or in stories to read all about it.

Exciting news…I’m back!

I’ve been laying low for a while now after the arrival of my youngest daughter in October, taking time to focus on family life. I have been delivering our live Zoom classes every fortnight but I haven’t been taking bookings for face to face classes during this time.

HOWEVER, the littlest one is now 6 months old (how, how?!) and I’m closer to being able to leave her for longer periods of time so…

I’m opening my diary again for home classes! 🎉

If you are interested in booking a home class or want more information please do get in touch:

***please note that i will be taking home class bookings that are relatively closeby to where I live (baby is 🤱 so I need to keep travel times in mind). If you live in an area that it would take me a while to travel to I will look to arrange for another of our amazing Daisy First Aid trainers to deliver your class for you.

💉💉💉💉

This week is World Immunisation Week, which aims to highlight and promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.

There is no evidence of any link between vaccines and autism. This has been demonstrated in many studies, conducted across very large populations. The 1998 study which raised concerns about a possible link between the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine and autism, was later found to be seriously flawed and fraudulent. The paper was subsequently retracted by the journal that published it, and the doctor that published it lost his medical license. Unfortunately, its publication created fear that led to dropping immunisation rates in some countries, and subsequent outbreaks of these diseases.

Your baby will have immunisations at 8, 12 and 16 weeks and again at 1 year to protect them against a range of serious infectious diseases.

If you are unsure about whether or not to get your child vaccinated and want to do more research be wary of websites making false claims and make sure you only use credible sources.

To help you find them, the WHO has reviewed and ‘certified’ many websites across the world that only provide information based on reliable scientific evidence and independent reviews by leading technical experts. These websites are all members of the Vaccine Safety Net.
