I love a good story, don't you?
And not only is it World Storytelling π Day today, it's also International Happiness π Day - my perfect combination β€οΈ.
I've always loved curling up with a good book, devouring pages of everything from a romantic novel to a crime thriller, from as far back as I can remember!
And these days, I often have 2 or more on the go at once; non-fiction or personal development ones by day and a good novel I can get lost in to wind down with at night...
(personal development ones get my mind firing off too many ideas to sleep π€ͺ do you find that?!)
As humans, not only do stories help us to connect with eachother, they also help us to make sense of the world around us and our place within it...
They provide the back story to who we are...
What we tell people when we first meet them...
How we got here...
Why we do what we do...
We're telling ourselves and others stories all the time - and I absolutely love those comedians who have such skill at delivering stories in a way that have me creasing up with laughter, recognising myself in their observations...
However, not all stories are good for us.
That inner dialogue that accompanies decisions we make based on whether we think we're worthy.. of having that new client, or a pay rise we're seeking...
Or whether we should be eating that croissant calling to us when ordering our morning cappuccino...
When those stories that we tell ourselves keep us locked into limiting thoughts and behaviours, we need to change them!
And they're not always accurate; truth is subjective after all, right?!
They can be opinions and judgements we've inherited from others, or beliefs we've created based on a limited perspective of 'truth' we had at that time...that years or even decades later we've not questioned and simply accept as our truth!
What stories are you telling yourself, or hear yourself sharing with others, that are keeping you in a role or situation that's less than what you'd love to be in?
It might be a challenging time you found yourself in in the past...yet months, years, even decades later you're still relating it? And the worst bit is, it holds you there!
