The Story of Thistleknowe Care Home
In the Garnock Valley, gentle and proud,
Where the days move soft and the trees stand loud,
There stands a home we all cherish now—
A place of warmth called Thistleknowe.
It all began in 1989,
With two kind hearts and a heartfelt design.
The Percivals, respected by all who knew,
Brought care and compassion in all they’d do.
They shaped the values we still hold now,
At the heart of a home called Thistleknowe.
The Burns stepped in and carried it on,
With a steady hand until their time was gone.
They kept things turning, they helped it somehow,
Preserving the heart of Thistleknowe.
In two thousand and seven, Philip came through,
With steady support and a clear point of view.
He honoured the care that still guides us now,
And helped shape the heart of Thistleknowe.
Since twenty-nineteen, it’s Ann Cassidy’s name
That’s been tied to this home with love and acclaim.
She knows every resident—the when, what, and how—
She’s part of the heart of Thistleknowe.
It’s not part of a chain or a business plan,
It’s a private wee home with a caring span.
Just fifteen residents live here now,
Held in the heart of Thistleknowe.
The team here are special—there’s no dispute,
With kindness and patience at the root.
They treat your loved ones with care and know-how,
As friends they cherish at Thistleknowe.
They listen, they notice, they’re gentle and true,
They know when to help and when just to be you.
They give from the heart, not just as a vow,
But because it’s who they are at Thistleknowe.
With dignity, laughter, and kindness each day,
They brighten the skies in a gentle way.
They care as if each soul’s their own now—
That’s the gift they bring to Thistleknowe.
We’re raising a fund to keep spirits high,
With music, wee outings, and memories that fly.
So residents can smile, feel joy here and now—
With no added cost at Thistleknowe.
If you can help—even just now—
With a few kind words or a gift somehow,
You’ll help us bring moments that truly allow
More love, more light to Thistleknowe.
Because here in this valley, calm and true...
Care isn’t a task—
It’s what we were born to do.
