Love them or hate them, here are a few reasons why plank based exercises are so beneficial

1.) Strengthening of the abdominals: these muscles have to work hard against gravity to support the body in a plank position
2.) They increase upper body strength
3.) Plank exercises retrain scapulothoracic stability - a fancy term referring to challenging the muscles around the shoulder blades as they sit on the rib cage
4.) Improvement of posture
