We stand with our colleagues from across the community sector. We cannot believe that despite political agreement from across the spectrum a solution could not be found to save any of the jobs. This is forcing many charities into very difficult decisions in the next month which will affect the most vulnerable in society.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund has now ended and because of prolonged political failure, its replacement, the Local Growth Fund, will deliver Β£15.8m less for vital frontline services over the coming year.

As a result of this 64% cut, 11,000 people who should have received essential support will now go without. Pressures will increase in our already overstretched health service. And, over the coming months, more than 400 skilled staff will also lose their jobs.

Our services have repeatedly been described as indispensable at both Westminster and Stormont... yet they will now be reduced significantly due to inaction and political pettiness.

This is not just about funding. It is about choices. And the choices made have real and immediate consequences for local people and our strained public services.

We are appalled that it has come to this. While responsibility sits across Governments, it is unacceptable that the First Minister Michelle O'Neill , deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly MLA , Finance Minister John O'Dowd MLA and the Secretary of State Hilary Benn could not find a local solution.

This failure will have lasting consequences.

People in Northern Ireland deserve better.

Today is the end of an era for us as so many of our wonderful staff could not be saved by the campaign and will have to leave their post tomorrow. The support going forward will be limited and we will have to regroup. Thanks to NICVA for their representation over the last 6 months. This is devastating to the support networks that exist across NI and also we feel for the 600 staff in organisations across the country that are in the same situation.

In 2 days organisations across Northern Ireland will have their funding cut by 64%. Charities that support disabled people, long term sick, young people back into work, carers. This may put some out of business. At the same time the dept of communities looks for ideas about how to help disabled people, long term sick, young people and has Β£15 million for this.

Please share your thoughts directly to the office of the first and deputy first minister through this link.

SAVE OUR FRONTLINE SERVICES FROM FUNDING CUTS 🚨

Next week, 64% of funding for over 60 charities in NI will be gone. The impact is going to be catastrophic- services, jobs and support for 11,000 people will be lost. The NI Executive must step in and help us to protect those who need our support.

A full day of political meetings β€” and the pressure continues.

Yesterday, NICVA and members of the Economic Inactivity Coalition met with senior Ministers in Belfast and London to escalate concerns about the planned 64% cut to funding for economic inactivity programmes from April 2026.

The coalition met with John O'Dowd MLA, Minister of Finance, Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and Miatta Fahnbulleh , Devolution Minister at the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG), to set out clearly what these cuts would mean for people, services and jobs across Northern Ireland.

Ministers acknowledged the value of the voluntary and sector and committed to raising the issue with the Treasury and highlighting the specific local impact of the current funding model.

We are grateful to all the organisations who continue to bring evidence and lived experience to these discussions, and to Robin Swann MP for facilitating engagement from Westminster.

The message from the sector remains clear: the funding is there - but the allocation is wrong. Time is running out to protect services that work.
