Sometimes we get caught up in the relentless pursuit of physical changes that we neglect the importance of overall health, balance and nourishment.

I know I sure did! Both pictures here are similar lighting with no makeup. And for me personally I feel they reflect the internal positive changes I achieved through balanced nutrition and lifestyle changes.

I want to help people drown out the noise that a certain body shape equates to health or not. I want to show that nourishment and balance is what truly matters.

I may have been aesthetically thinner in the first picture, but I think you can see my face tells a different story. I had constant breakouts, low energy/strength and constant stomach and hormonal issues. And best of all I didn’t even feel confident being smaller!

Does that mean you can’t have physical goals? Not at all, I have my own strength and fitness goals. But Let’s focus on nourishing our bodies from the inside out.
Let’s focus on self care and practicing self love.
Let’s curate a lifestyle that fuels instead of depletes.
Let’s never play small again.
We can’t be tanks with nothing in our engines 😎

Finally achieved a Dewy Complexion….

It only takes sweat and sunscreen 🙈🤣

I hope everyone is remembering their SPF in this weather (and always to be fair). Let’s look after that skin.

But what about that all important Vitamin D?

We know virtually every cell in our body needs it and that it is essential for hundreds of processes in the body daily.

But how do we safely achieve it without the risk of sun damage?

All it takes is 15 minutes a few times a week. Flick through the slides to learn more.

And don’t forget the little ones. Rickets is actually making a bit of a comeback. We need to ensure they safely get enough Vitamin D!

Tip…let little ones run around the garden around 10-11am for 15 minutes. Even in their nappies etc. Let their skin soak up the goodness then get the sunscreen on!!

Side note: remember not all sunscreens are created equal. Personally I love for myself and they also have kids sunscreens too! No nasties ❌ no endocrine disrupters ❌

And as always, not all supplements are created equal. Remember the potential for drug interactions.

Speak to your GP or your friendly neighbourhood Nutritional Therapists for advice on dosage for you.

We hope everyone is enjoying the weather while it lasts, but vitamin D should be a year long part of your routine. Every cell in our body needs it.

😋Easy appetite suppressant…

…Eat food regularly throughout the day!

I Genuinely don’t even mean to be condescending. But this is something we see a lot in clinic. I hate to think that women are beating themselves up for “binging at night” like they are some out of control being.

Then I take a quick look at their food diary and can easily see the problem.

That coffee and scone for breakfast at 9. Then the lettuce and tomato salad (fat free usually) at around 1. Then nothing until they get home at 7:30pm.

No wonder you eat all around you at night!
You are not the problem here. Trying to be “good” is the problem.

Often “being good” is restrictive and unappetising and certainly doesn’t cover the rule of “fats, carbs and protein at each meal”.

Ladies we are busy, we have jobs, families, we keep fit and active, have a million commitments and have a daily changing hormonal system with varying needs. You need fuel! And fuel regularly!

We can’t conquer the world on a half fuelled tank 💚

🙏🏼Let’s keep our blood sugars balanced, our moods stable, support our nervous system, lower our cortisol levels, support our digestion and look after ourselves 💚

🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride Day Belfast 🏳️‍🌈

The first parade in 3 years and I cannot wait! My favourite day of the year and I am so excited to watch the Belfast LBTQ+ community shine today! And as much as I enjoy it, I always recognise that Pride is First and Foremost a protest and call for equality!

I also want to highlight the fact that I will be talking a lot on here about Female hormones, but I can’t do that without acknowledging that not all people who menstruate are women and not all women menstruate.

I hope everyone has an amazing and safe day.

Sick and tired of feeling sick and tired?

Ladies, pain is not normal. Severe mood swings aren’t normal, PMS, PMDD etc aren’t normal. In an ideal world your period should just appear with maybe a bit more tiredness and a few niggles.

PMS is something we should refuse to accept as just apart of our journeys being female.

We can accept it sure, but only as a symptom of something underlying that needs to be addressed. But we do not need to accept that this will not/cannot change.

We need to be advocates for our own health, learn about ourselves and our bodies and realise no one knows our bodies better than we do.

Lifestyle and nutritional interventions can help massively with menstrual issues. It’s not an easy overnight fix, but it can be done.

It’s also never an alternative vs medical thing. Severe pain etc should always be checked out by your GP/medical professional.
Both approaches can compliment each other. But ultimately there’s a lot of changes you can introduce through diet and lifestyle that that will make a difference.

🩸If you are on the pill you do not have a period 🩸

A lot of times in clinic we would ask women about their monthly cycle and we are often told “yes my cycle is regular every 28 days” we then later find out they are on the contraceptive pill.

Ladies, this is not a period. A period only occurs after ovulation. What you are experiencing is a drop in hormone levels due to the pill which causes the lining of your uterus to shed.

Now I’m not here to bash the contraceptive pill. I am all about choice, but you want to make sure it’s informed choice. The contraceptive pill is very good at preventing pregnancy. What it cannot do is balance your hormones.

If you take the pill to prevent pregnancy, great! (Though you may want to take some additional nutrients to help with any depletion/side effects).

If you are on the pill to balance your hormones you are literally just sticking a plaster over the issue. You will have to address it at some point down the line. It does not fix your hormones, it hides the problem for another day.

Also, Ovulation is KEY to female health. We want to ovulate and ovulate well!! We don’t want to be switching it off! I will chat about ovulation very soon.
