This week’s post divorce hurdle was a new one for me.

My solo travelling teenage children were refused access to their flight to England to visit their dad and escorted to the exit of the international airport by security.

In moments like that, the calm and collected part of you gives way to pure panic. I was an hour away, and it was rush hour. Trying to stay strong for them while processing your own emotions, so many emotions, was a task.

Gratitude. 💜

Today I am helping my mum get to church because her faith matters deeply to her, and family matters deeply to me.

We drive each other mad sometimes, but I know I am modelling something important for my children: how we show up for the people who showed up for us.

I am grateful for her wisdom, even when I do not always want to hear it. I am grateful that I still have her here. And I am grateful for the chance to give back, just a little, after all the weekends she spent driving me to dancing competitions across the country.

Divorce life has deepened that sense of gratitude. Even as everything changes, it grounds us and reminds us what matters most. There is strength in the simple act of showing up.
