So, looks like we're all shopping at Asda now 💚🖤

Brilliant news ❤️

Tom Boyd, who was told he had to stop stacking shelves at the Waitrose where he had volunteered for four years, has been offered a job at Asda.

When Tom's mum, Frances, asked if he could be offered 'a few paid hours' at Waitrose, the supermarket told them his work placement had to end.

Tom was left devastated by the news, but now Asda have stepped in and offered him two five-hour paid shifts a week.

Frances said that they are 'amazed' and 'overwhelmed' by the news and the support they have received.

Our BASE 'Spectrum Creations' group (12 attendees) had a busy evening focused on integrate detailed coloured pencils-sharpie colouring-in exercise - precision and attention to detail through a fun-focused art activity - of course plenty of friendships continuing to develop and chatting about all sort of different topics and issues - Next week we're very excited to have the wonderful local poet Grainne Tobin to deliver her creating writing workshop

Last night's Spectrum Creations group (12) started the evening with some art activities, including fun glass painting and puppet-making stitching - focusing on our fine motor skills, focused attention, and concentration capabilities - then we finished off with a selection of group board game activities - and lots of social-chatting of course and good discussions on autism related topics

🌟 Another incredible session this month with David from Brothers autism social enterprise CIC (BASE), who delivered a powerful and insightful talk on the 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦.

It’s always heartening to see familiar faces returning and to warmly welcome new ones into the group. 💙

David’s approach continues to resonate so well — combining 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 with 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲 and a truly inclusive style. His informal Q&A format creates a safe and 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 where everyone feels encouraged to share, ask questions, and connect through their unique journeys.

Even when discussing the more difficult aspects, there’s always room for laughter and shared understanding. It's inspiring to witness the genuine 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 forming within this community. 🌱

Following my twin boys autism diagnoses in 2005, it soon unravelled before my eyes and became clearly evident - esp. through my own academic journey since my 30's - that I myself, 100% fall into the 90% category of undiagnosed autistic adults (personally, also comorbid ADHD) ... without a shadow of doubt that undiagnosed 90% are the most vulnerable of the autistic population within the workplace - hence, finally deciding that the employabilty sector environment destroys the mental health of these particular individuals - thus fuelling my motivation to support autistic adults through the founding of Brothers autism social enterprise CIC - so many people within the workplace over the years have inspired me to be absolutely nothing like them 🙂 💛
