It’s important to pick the right chair for you but this infographic shows the features to look out for when making the choice. Getting a chair with the ability to adjust all these features will help make you more comfortable and keep you supported. Remember however the most important thing is frequent short rest breaks to move and stretch.

Saw this in City Matters magazine this week. If anyone knows an older person who is susceptible to falls it is an excellent program and you can self refer.
Lots of falls can be prevented by working on strength and balance as we age.

This would be a great idea to get us all moving in the spring and to raise money for a great cause too. I am planning to sign up myself. With everyone working from home these days a lot of us aren't getting out and moving as much as we used to. This would be a good motivator. Hopefully the weather will be a bit better too.

I just want to reassure everyone that City Physiotherapy and all private health care providers can remain open during this next lockdown here in Northern Ireland. We have all our infection control procedures in place and are following public health guidelines to prevent spread of covid 19 virus, keep all of our clients safe and still provide an essential service during this difficult time.

I am open for face to face appointments but for anyone that is at risk or self isolating a telehealth or zoom consult is also an option.

For those of you working from home remember to stay active. At the start of this my home working patients could see the benefits of working from home (WFH). In recent weeks some are reporting that it is getting increasingly more stressful. It doesn’t suit everyone and strangely people are sitting longer, taking fewer breaks and working harder. Great for the employers but maybe not so great for you!

There is so much help on line these days to stay active at home. There will be something for everyone if you look. Check out some of these sites: NHS live well or the NHS fitness studio, they have 10 minute workouts. Find the time, just do it. Sport England also has tips and guidance on how to keep active in your own home with their staying in work out. There is also Julie Robinson’s move it or lose it which includes chair based exercises. 10 today is another ten minute workout for older people or if you fancy a bit of tai chi try Tai chi with Ros.

Stay safe. Keep well. Keep active.

It's national back pain week and a recent survey in Personnel (occupational health and well being journal) suggests that as many as 4 out of 5 home workers are experiencing musculoskeletal pain. They surveyed just over a 1000 home workers and found that 50% reported low back pain, 36% reported neck pain and 28% shoulder pain. Scary statistics!
Looks like working from home is set to continue so make sure you are comfortable and have the right set up. I have attached a guide published by co kinetic journal to help you remain well while working from home.
