People often ask me why bother meditating ? why is it important ?

Relax and breathe.

Your breathe is the greatest asset you have.

We normally breathe through the abdomen, diaphram and intercostal muscles that lie between the ribs. It is helped along by the smaller secondary muscles of the neck, shoulder and ribs.

When we are stressed or anxious or upset our abdomen tenses, and prevents primary muscles from working e.g diaphragm, abdominals, intercostal muscles, instead they begin tugging on neck shoulders and upper ribs. But the secondary muscles are only designed to take 20% of the burden so they become stressed.

If this continues it can lead to chronic tension in the shoulders and neck and chronic headaches and fatigue and increasingly shallower breathing. This can become a vicious circle of stress, tension and anxiety and strained breathing.

But there is an equally powerful virtuous cycle that you can cultivate by learning the art of breathing. Its at the heart of mindfulness and as old as meditation itself.
You can learn the basics in a matter of minutes, although mastering it can take a bit longer.

Fulfillment

I have been a student of Panchen Otrul Rinpoche Tibetan buddhist monk and spiritual leader of Jampa Ling Tibetan Buddhist centre, in Co Cavan for approximately 25 years.

I volunteered for Jampa Ling NI for past 12 and half years and taught meditation during those years at Malone road, Ballynafeigh community centre, Conway centre and more recently at Maitri Yoga studio in East Belfast.

Meeting Rinpoche and learning how to meditate transformed my life for the better. To this day Rinpoche continues to inspire me and remains my teacher, guide and inspiration.

For this reason I want to offer a one day silent retreat to share the amazing breathing techniques and guided meditations that helped to heal me and empower me and become a happier, wiser, kinder more balanced person.

I don't profess to be an expert in anything, but I have a deep desire to share the amazing meditation techniques that Rinpoche taught me over the past 25 years that made me a kinder, happier, more balanced person.

My primary motivation for doing this retreat is to be of benefit to oneself and others. Great news everyone. In the past while, I had to take a break from meditation teaching due to my second job, however, fortunately I am now able to get back to teaching meditation on a monthly basis in the near future. Probably June, July time. I look forward to seeing you at meditation classes in the near future.
