Another weekend, another marathon 🏃‍♂️🏅

A huge good luck to the over 100 runners taking on the Belfast Marathon and Relay tomorrow in support of Marie Curie – we’ll be cheering you all the way! 🙌💛

And a massive congratulations to all of our London Marathon runners, including Kerry and Deborah (pictured 📸), who took on the challenge last Sunday – even running dressed as a daffodil 🌼 – and were interviewed on the BBC 👏🎉

Running a marathon is an incredible achievement and an amazing way to raise vital funds for Marie Curie. If you’re feeling inspired, we still have a limited number of places available for the Dublin Marathon 🏃‍♀️

Our Marie Curie Research Voices Group brings together volunteers who help ensure people living with a life‑limiting illness, those who care for them, and those who are bereaved have a real say in our research - influencing service delivery and policy to make a meaningful difference.🌼

Barbara is one of our volunteer members in Belfast. She shared why being involved matters to her:

“I received support from Marie Curie when a relative was at the end of their life. Being part of the Research Voices Group is my way of giving back for the support I received. Feeding back my experiences through this type of research will help ensure that more people can get the access to the right care & support when they need."

Barbara also encourages others to join:

“Even if you only have a little time, I’d encourage anyone to get involved and support the group in any way they can.”

The groups meet every two months, and as Barbara says, you can give as much or as little time as you’re able.

We created the Research Voices Group in 2013 to engage with those living with or caring for someone with terminal illness.

🏃Marathon Day is finally here! 🏃‍♀️

Good luck to the incredible runners taking part in the TCS London Marathon - particularly our 31 runners from NI 💛

This includes 5 friends from Downpatrick, Clair, Julie, Kathryn, Molly and Penny who are taking on this challenge together.

Penny said ‘Running for Marie Curie has given every step a deeper meaning. Knowing that our efforts are helping provide care and support to people living with terminal illness and their families has been a constant source of motivation. 👊

Together, we are incredibly proud to have raised over £20,000 for this amazing cause. It’s a reflection not just of our commitment, but of the generosity and support from everyone in our community and beyond who have backed us along the way.’ 💛

As the Official Charity of the Year, we couldn’t be prouder of everyone taking part and fundraising for Marie Curie 🌼. Every mile you run and every pound you raise helps us provide vital care and support for people in our hospice and in their own homes, right now. Thank you for showing up with courage, determination, and heart. Go make it count! ⭐

We would love it if you could share some good luck messages to our runners in the comments below 👇💛

We also wanted to share a few lovely moments from recent GDA events:

✨ Field of Hope Ballyclare supported Marie Curie during one of their fundraising weekends and raised £1501 🤩 the sunshine made the field of daffodils look even more beautiful.

There’s still time to get involved! We have a few more collections coming up over the next few weeks - we particularly need volunteers for our Belfast City Centre collection on 11th April. If you’d like to join in, sign up here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/get-involved/fundraise/collect

🌼This week, we had the pleasure of a performance from Comedian Emer Maguire at the Marie Curie Hospice in Belfast. 🌼

Emer performed a signature song written specially for Marie Curie to celebrate the Great Daffodil Appeal which helps to fund the incredible work of our nurses and healthcare assistants. 💛

You can find out more about Emer's visit and clips of the original song on U105 socials and in the article below Belfast Telegraph 👇

🌼 The daffodils are blooming… and so is the Great Daffodil Appeal! 🌼

As daffodils appear across Northern Ireland, they’re a beautiful reminder that it’s officially Great Daffodil Appeal.

💛 This Friday and Saturday mark our biggest collecting weekend of the month across all Tesco stores in Northern Ireland.

If you spot our amazing volunteer collectors, please stop for a chat or make a donation, every coin and every conversation helps us continue providing vital care.⭐

Today, we were delighted to be out and about with David Johnston and the team, encouraging the public to get involved and support the Appeal.

The crew started the roadshow at SPAR NI Ravenhill where our corporate partners including SONI were donned in their yellow hats and tabards. Then U105 visited the Belfast hospice meeting the incredible teams who make a difference every single day for patients and their families. The final stop was at another one of our collections in Tesco Yorkgate with Wave Trauma Group.

Thank you to everyone who wears a daffodil, donates, or volunteers — you’re helping Marie Curie be there when it matters most. 💛🌼

This week, we’re shining a spotlight on the Fatigue, Anxiety and Breathlessness (FAB) programme led by Liz, one of our Occupational Therapists at the Marie Curie Hospice in Belfast.

The FAB programme offers people living with progressive, life‑limiting illnesses, the opportunity to learn techniques that can help them manage their symptoms and support them in enjoying a better quality of life. 💛

The 5 week programme is more than just practical support, it’s a space for people experiencing similar symptoms to come together and enjoy the social and peer support throughout the programme.

🎉 Recently, one of the group members, Ann, celebrated her 90th birthday and the group marked the occasion together.

Ann shared: “The FAB programme was very beneficial and informative. It was especially helpful to meet with other people who are experiencing similar difficulties to me.”

We’d like to wish Ann a very happy 90th birthday! 🎂💐

💛The Great Daffodil Appeal 2026 is fast approaching and many of our supporters have already signed up to don their daffodil hat and tabard to collect for Marie Curie 💛

One of our longstanding hospice volunteers, Peter, recently shared his story on why he is encouraging people to support the Great Daffodil Appeal this year. 🤩

Peter said: “The Great Daffodil Appeal is somewhat iconic and, particularly with this being the 40th anniversary year, I thought there was no better time to get involved.

"Giving a couple of hours to fundraise at a local supermarket or in your local town is an easy way to support such an important cause, and it doesn’t cost a penny.” 💛
