Yesterday, The National Trust team at Mount Stewart hosted the Marie Curie Walk and Talk Bereavement support group for a daffodil planting session 🌼

For many years, Mount Stewart had a memory tree with little ribbons and tags with messages people had written for their loved ones, unfortunately the tree was damaged in a storm earlier in the year and so Mount Stewart kindly gave a small area of their gardens for daffodils to be planted 💛

Marie Curie Bereavement Support Volunteer, Helen Laird, organised a lovely morning where some of the Marie Curie and Mount Stewart teams read some reflective poems before we headed out to the gardens to plant plenty of daffodils.

Thank you to the team at Mount Stewart - National Trust for hosting us all, particularly Robert, Andrew and the volunteer gardeners for keeping everyone right in our planting techniques 👨‍🌾

Thank you as well to SPAR NI Carrowdore for providing buns and biscuits to have with the refreshments.

This week is Will to Give week, organised to encourage people to consider leaving a gift to charity in their Will.

As part of the week of events, colleagues from the Marie Curie Legacy Administration team led a presentation around how our Legacy team works and provided an opportunity for local charities to discuss best practice and how to get the most out of their legacy fundraising.

Thank you to Will to Give for inviting Marie Curie colleagues to talk at this event and thank you to Cleaver Fulton Rankin for hosting us.

You can find out more information on leaving a gift in your Will to Marie Curie on our website or get in touch with our Legacy Lead, Deborah McWhirter via email deborah.mcwhirter@mariecurie.org.uk.

Thank you to Bex Yendall who recently shared her story of losing her beloved mum, Karen to cancer in July 2024, aged just 56 in the Belfast Telegraph - https://tinyurl.com/3dwusnmy

Bex’s mum received care in the Marie Curie Hospice Belfast for two short inpatient stays. Bex said ‘The Marie Curie staff couldn’t have done enough for her and made sure the tradition of a Thursday night ‘date night’ with my dad continued while she was in the hospice.’ ❤

“Not long after mum passed away, I saw the ‘Twilight Walk’ advertised. Initially I was unsure about it as I thought it might be full of doom and gloom, but I’m so glad I registered to take part. The event was filled with music and the atmosphere was so uplifting. They’d organised choir singers along the trail, and people had brought their dogs. The mood was very upbeat and there was a real sense of togetherness in being with other people who were also there to remember their lost loved ones.” 💛

This year, Bex is attending Twilight Walk to support her cousin, who is fundraising in memory of her auntie, Bex’s mum. 💛

There is still time to register for this year’s Twilight Walk on Saturday 27th September, just 3 weeks today! 🚶🏻‍♀️🎆

We'd like to give a big shout-out to some of our incredible supporters and volunteers who have recently celebrated milestone birthdays. 🥳🎂

Benny Conway just turned 90 and in lieu of gifts, he asked for donations to Marie Curie, in memory of the care his wife Eileen received in 2017. 💛

Doris Quinn from Dromore, Co. Tyrone, also celebrated her 90th birthday and requested donations to Marie Curie, never forgetting the support her husband received many years ago. 💛

The Fermanagh Friends of Marie Curie recently gathered to celebrate the 93rd birthday of our dear friend and volunteer, Mollie Collins. On this special day, Mollie was honoured with a 30-year long service award for her unwavering dedication. Mollie always brings joy and laughter wherever she goes, and she truly is a legend. 🥰

Happy birthday to Benny, Doris, and Mollie! Thank you for all your amazing support of Marie Curie. 🙌😍

Check out how Mark Ritchie & his brothers turned an old favourite into a clever fundraiser 🤩

Recently, the brothers held a fundraising event at the Tullyglass hotel in Ballymena. Their Dad had received support from Marie Curie at home at the end of his life in 2024 which motivated the boys to fundraise.

They organised a Bingo Music Bonanza event, selling over 600 tickets and raising over £16,000. We would like to thank Mark and his brothers, and many of their friends and family who put in so much effort to this amazing event and fundraised a fantastic amount of money for Marie Curie 💛

We know lots of people do amazing things , from the tried and tested to the wild & wacky! We’d love to hear some of your fundraising ideas or successful fundraisers you have organised, feel free to share them in the comments below! 👇

If you’re thinking of fundraising for Marie Curie, visit the Marie Curie website or contact the Belfast fundraising office.

Thank you to all the brilliant golfers who took part in the Charity Golf Day at our hospice neighbour, Shandon Park Golf Club, last Friday and have raised in incredible £5,800 for Marie Curie and Friends of the Cancer Centre 🙌

This is the ninth time that Dianne Conway (pictured centre) has held a Charity Golf Day after Marie Curie supported her mum with end of life care at home in 2013. And this year was the biggest turn out yet with 190 people taking part 🏌️

Dianne said ‘Everyone in our community is affected by terminal illness in some way and organising the Golf Day is a great way to bring people together and talk about our experiences and raise money for a great cause.’ 💛

Thank you to Dianne for organising this brilliant event and all the golfers and everyone who supported it 😍
