World Sight Day 2025
This week, we’re celebrating World Sight Day with a series of exciting events designed to support, enable, and connect children and young people with visual impairments, their families, and the professionals who support them. Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing the events happening here at Angel Eyes NI:
Tech Day for Professionals (in collaboration with ) on 10th October at Lagan Valley Island at 9.30-1.30pm
A specialist event tailored for professionals working with children and young people with visual impairments. Explore the latest assistive technology designed to enable and assist children and young people in educational, home, and community settings.
Tech Day for Families on 11th October at Lagan Valley Island at 10-2pm
A specialist tech event in collaboration with Guide Dogs UK, designed specifically for parents and children and young people with visual impairments (8 - 14 years). Parents and children will explore the latest technology designed to enable and assist children and young people in educational, home, and community settings.
Both days will include the opportunities to try out a Braille Learning Device- exploring the early stages of leaning Braille, Explore tactile coding, explore using a video/electronic magnifier and a distance camera/magnifier. Participants will also have a go at Zoomtext or SuperNova/Digital Magnification & Speech – there will be a demonstration of how this type of software works and a practical session with Tommy from Guide Dogs on how Ray-Ban x Meta smart glasses can support children and young people at home and in school, describing surroundings, reading text, and enabling remote sighted assistance. We’ll also look at the next steps in independent mobility, introducing innovative electronic travel aids: Glide (Glidance), biped NOA, WeWALK Smart Cane 2, and Ashirase. Learn what’s possible today, what’s coming next, and how these tools may complement (not replace) core orientation and mobility skills.
Every event this week reflects our commitment to inclusion, independence, and community.
Join us in celebrating the potential and voices of children and young people with visual impairments.
